Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kyla Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kyla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I’ve made as a business owner has been my education — both formal and informal. I’m a Syracuse University graduate with a background in technology, but when I decided to pivot into personal styling, I knew I needed to sharpen my skills. So, I got certified by the London College of Fashion, and that experience was invaluable. I had the natural gifts, but learning in a formal setting really honed my abilities, giving me the foundation and confidence I needed to bet on myself.
As my business grew, I realized I had so much more to learn, especially when it came to scaling and running the business side of things. That’s when I started hiring coaches for business education and advice. It was a game-changer. I’ve always believed in the power of investing in yourself, and I’ve seen firsthand how transformative it can be. To this day, I still work with a coach to help me grow in the areas I want to advance in.
So when I tell women to invest in a Style Coach, I’m walking the talk. I put my money where my mouth is because I believe in the value of expertise and guidance. It’s helped me become the business owner I am today, and I continue to invest in myself so I can keep evolving.

Kyla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Kyla, and I help brilliant women create brilliant closets. My journey into the world of style coaching was anything but typical. I started my career in technology, working at a fast-paced start-up, but deep down, I knew I was meant to do something different. While working in tech, I had the privilege of being surrounded by highly successful, ambitious women in STEM. I saw how brilliant they were, but I also noticed something else: many of them were struggling to find a way to express their personal power through style. That’s when the lightbulb went off for me — I realized there was a gap in how women, especially those in male-dominated industries, approach their personal style.
I began to see the intersection between success and style. Dressing powerfully isn’t just about looking good; it’s about manifesting success, confidence, and showing up as your best self. For brilliant women, this is a game-changer! The way they presented themselves could directly impact how they felt and, ultimately, how they navigated their careers.
What I do as a Style Coach goes much deeper than traditional personal styling. It’s not just about picking out cute outfits or following trends — it’s about transforming how my clients see themselves and how they show up in the world. Traditional styling can be surface-level, focusing solely on the clothes. But with style coaching, we dig into mindset, confidence, and self-expression. I help women uncover their personal power and align their style with their goals, making sure their wardrobes reflect who they are at their core and where they’re headed in life. It’s about creating lasting change that goes beyond the closet, helping my clients feel empowered in every aspect of their lives.
With this realization, I knew I had to make a bold move. I left the tech world and threw myself into the fashion industry. I got certified by the London College of Fashion to sharpen my skills, but it was more than just a career shift—it was a calling. I wanted to empower these incredible women to create high-ROI wardrobes that would not only elevate their style but also their confidence and career trajectories.
Now, I offer style coaching and personalized solutions, focusing on building wardrobes that make life easier, not harder. Through my coaching programs and courses, I teach women how to use their closets as tools for self-expression and success. I specialize in working with professional women who are ready to show up in a bigger way, creating wardrobes that support them in work, play, and love.
What sets me apart is my deep understanding of fashion psychology and the specific needs of women in STEM. I don’t just help women dress well — I help them feel powerful and prepared for every room they walk into.
I’m proudest when I see my clients experience that shift—the moment they realize they can dress in a way that not only reflects who they are but also helps them manifest the success and confidence they deserve. At the core of my work is the belief that style is a tool for self-empowerment, and I want every woman I work with to feel like her wardrobe is a reflection of her brilliance.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
LinkedIn has been the best source of new clients for me, hands down! A lot of people see it as this stiff, boring work platform, but for me, it’s turned into something of a public diary. I pour out my thoughts about women, style, and money in my newsletter. I love chatting with brilliant in my direct messages, going live to engage with my community, and seeing their career highlights in my feed. It’s also a cool place to cheer on my clients and invite even more women into my stylish world. The personal connections I’ve built there have been a game-changer for my business.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that playing small would keep me safe. When I first entered the tech industry, I spent my first six months battling crippling imposter syndrome. I was constantly questioning whether I was smart enough to be there, and it showed in how I presented myself — both in my work and my style. I avoided rocking the boat in every way, and that approach wasn’t getting me anywhere.
It wasn’t until I made a conscious decision to shift how I was showing up that things started to change. I started dressing for the life I wanted, not the one I felt confined to. I realized that if I wanted to blossom in my career, I had to look at myself, my worth, and my viewpoint, and become unapologetic about all of it. The moment I stepped into my power and began to show up in a bigger way, through my style and my presence, things started to manifest for me. Promotions, speaking engagements, and other goals I’d been striving for started rolling in.
That positive change rippled throughout my life, and it became crucial for me to continue showing up as my best, most authentic self every day. This is the same message I preach to my clients now: when you dress for the life you want and embrace your brilliance, everything else begins to fall into place. Style is just the beginning of showing up for yourself.
