Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ky Santilli. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ky, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
There was a long time where I felt like I couldn’t take a vacation, even packing up my business supplies and taking them with me out of town and to college. Recently I had my first vacation, I temporarily closed my shop and focused on myself. It was plenty of fun and the worries I had dissipated when I came back and still had customers! My advice would be to put yourself first, even when it’s hard to do so. Your customers will always come back.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an artist first and foremost. I’ve been doing art for as long as I can remember and always dabbled in different crafts and arts. One day in February, I stumbled on press on nails with my friend Sage and we immediately fell in love. My passion for creating nails has grown more and more throughout the year. I offer “Not-Your-Basic” press on nails. They have the look of acrylics and the strength and durability of gel! There’s a wide variety of styles to choose from as well as the possibility to bring your ideas to life through custom orders. We also offer custom decoden phone cases and pins.
I’m most proud of my perseverance to keep this company going while I go through college and times with no orders.

How’d you meet your business partner?
The way I met my business partner Sage is pretty silly to be honest. She is my best friends little sister and I’ve known her since she was maybe two or three. Traveling back and forth between Raleigh and college, I spend a lot of time at her house. One day we bought press on nails from the beauty supply store and put nail stickers and some top coat on them, and the business started there. It has blossomed to us having an entire process and techniques.

How did you build your audience on social media?
TikTok is your best friend! The chance to go viral on that app is higher than most other apps I have found. Stay consistent with your posting and don’t be afraid to repost older products/posts. The more people that see it the better.
