Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kwon Hosey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kwon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Moving to Atlanta for school in 2023 was the most significant risk ever. My circumstances didn’t favor that move; I just had a little faith. Boxes were checked off one at a time, but everything wasn’t figured out even on the road the day I moved, and I had maybe $400 in my bank account. A few of my fraternity brothers offered to pay my rent for the first 2 months, and I arrived and landed 2 jobs to sustain myself while I was in school taking 5 classes. A friend gifted me a MacBook for school; I would use the library or rent their laptops. God’s hands were in every blessing; I just had to ask for things when I needed them. Some mornings, I woke up like, “How did I end up in Atlanta?” The car I drove up here was given to me conveniently in May. Sometimes, God lines the miracles up until they lead you to where He’s trying to get you. Follow the trail of miracles. This story is proof of faith and what it’s like trusting things will play out how they need to.
Kwon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an artist. A writer. A storyteller. It’s a gift more than a business. I have been writing since around 2017, and I have an urge to document every story. Whether mine or someone else’s, if I think it’s significant, I want to tell it, whether on paper or camera. We all are storytellers; my ability to do so is more carved out and sharper than others. I help people retell their experiences or experiences that impact all of us. I tell stories. The knowledge, facts, and data are the outlining, but the stories are the shading for the painting. No matter what project, someone needs what I do. I tell stories nobody likes hearing, the stories hidden in the small parts of the city and those pockets we don’t visit. In groups of people, I want to hear the story of the person everyone keeps talking over.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Through honesty about everything. You find who I am in my writing, and that’s where my honesty happens. I have no model or structure; people just gravitate toward my story. And the people who might’ve had particular emotions or feelings evoked by my gifts became my audience. The audience is there. It sometimes feels like I’m writing and speaking into the abyss until people show up to listen and read. But I just had to keep writing until others showed up. People feel like what I do matters to them and their lives, and that’s what matters most.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is to build and sustain a community through sharing stories.
