Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kwmaine Ivery. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kwmaine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
I scaled up by being humble and doing the leg work! I knew my time would come when god said I was ready. I must say god has shown out for me even in mist of the bad days, when I want the give it all up. Outside of walking in my faith, I scaled out by putting my self out there. I let my work and my customer reviews speak for its self. Scaling up has allowed me to get a dump trailer, it has allowed me to get a employee and more importantly it gives me time to spend with my family.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Kwmaine IVERY. I am the owner and founder of Just K’s Junk Removal. A little about me is that I always wanted to start my own business; I been wanting to do it for quite some time now. It wasn’t until me and my wife had our first son that things came about in 2020. While my wife was on maternity leave, I started getting everything together to start a moving business. But after placing my business on Google a company called home advisor reached out to me. Home advisor made me aware of a special licensing that I needed to move forward with their service. The rep made me aware I could continue with the service if I did junk removal as well. It wasn’t until then when I realized my business will not be moving company but a junk removal company. Ever since, I have been perfecting my junk removal business with the help of my family. Outside of being a business man I love spending time with my son and date night with my wife. Some my favorite things to do is watch and or go football games, and I love a going to a good comedy show. There is nothing like a good laugh.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Just like most business it has not been a smooth road for me either. The hardest part about the journey in the beginning was not having a trailer to help haul the junk away, not having the correct equipment to make the job easy, and pricing jobs incorrectly. In the beginning, I had rent a Uhaul trailer to get the job done. But I also priced my jobs incorrectly, which was not always a win for me. Pricing is the key to a profitable business. Now that I have been doing this for some time, the new bump in the road is advertising and marketing. Advertising & marketing is so important to stay relevant and to get new customers. In two years I have grown so much, now I have dump trailer, a utility trailer, and my first employee.
The key is to stay down, be humble, be patient and most importantly be smart.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
