We recently connected with Kwan Bruce and have shared our conversation below.
Kwan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
In 2014 several couples asked us to do their wedding flowers because they heard I learned floral design from my family business back in Thailand. After a number of weddings all from word of mouth, we started Bliss in Bloom.
When I first started our business in Charleston, I pretty much had to learn all new flower names, styles, and varieties. It was challenging yet very intriguing to learn what is in each season and different varieties in different parts of the world. During the pandemic, it was such a challenging time for everyone, especially the wedding industry. We faced over 5 months of cancellations, wedding postponements, and supply and floral shortages. But no matter the curve ball the pandemic thrown at our business, we pivoted and learned to be flexible and resilient in our industry and maintain our business.
Kwan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Bliss in Bloom Charleston is a Floral Design Studio located in Charleston, SC. We specialize in bespoke weddings and events. We are also available for travel throughout the low country and Southeast. We provide full floral design and installation services for weddings and events. We spend half of our days dreaming up big ideas of installations with incredible clients and vendors, and the other half elbow deep in armfuls of flowers.
We love to do on-site floral installations at the reception and ceremony locations. We try to incorporate locally grown flowers from several of the amazing low country flower farmers when available, as well as incorporating foraged elements, or even some blooms or greenery from our own garden as part of the design. I am currently growing a couple of my favorites like Café De Lait, Cream and Peach Dahlias, Poppies, Anemone, and Ranunculus in my flowerbed. As a full-service floral design business, you don’t have to know a single name of any bloom, we want to help you plan your dream wedding flowers one bloom at the time!
