We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kunu Bickal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kunu below.
Kunu, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to pursue the fashion scene while I was living in Los Angeles. I had recently moved there to play basketball at a post-grad hoping after that year I’d go play pro overseas. Then, while I was there, I got to witness more of peoples love for fashion. I seen all different types of clothes, accessories, models, etc. and I loved the streetwear look so I decided to leave LA and stop focusing on playing basketball because that was, at that point, the old goal. Being seen on a big platform for my unique, tattooed look was the new goal.
Kunu, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well really, I started off very camera shy.. To the point of where even my friends or girlfriend would make me nervous while taking my pictures. I got out of that pretty slow but now it doesn’t bother me at all. I think there really does have to be something that sets you apart from a bigger crowd, especially while being a model. And luckily, mine is that I started getting tattoos at 16 so by the time I started modeling last year I was heavily tattooed. Alot of brands, especially streetwear brands, look for unique looks like that. I’m proud to say that I stand out for the way I look.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Taking pictures on a camera and having them edited. Alot of people don’t do it, I rarely do it still but it makes a pretty big difference. Uploading the highest quality photos for my viewers now is a must.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being some type of influence on other people. I make a good amount of money from just taking pictures in brands clothing but if I stopped getting paid at all for it I would still be so grateful for my position because I influence others regardless. I get DMs quite often being told that some of the things I share or post about make others want to change something in their life for the better.
