We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krystyn Stafford Audra Satmary. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krystyn Stafford below.
Alright, Krystyn Stafford thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
At ILoveKickboxing-Trinity, we offer an unparalleled kickboxing experience! Our go-at-your-own-pace atmosphere is perfect for all fitness levels and ages 13 and above. We make it a priority to get to know our members on a personal level, and everyone is greeted by name when they walk in the door. Don’t know how to kickbox? No problem! We’ll teach you everything you need to know. As a beginner, and throughout your time with us, we make sure you’re working safely on the mat and getting exactly what you need and came for. We always have at least one instructor on the mat at all times, so we can correct and challenge our boxers as needed. Our studio is the perfect place for boxers to come and reach their individual goals! We take the time to understand any restrictions and goals they may have, so we can work with them on the mat to the best of our ability. Our members come to us to find a new way to exercise, and they stay because they love kickboxing and the amazing community we have built. We also like to take getting to know our members to the next level by hosting different events every month outside of the studio! Whether it’s a restaurant experience, a planned social event, or a challenging sporting event, we like to do it all! It helps everyone remember that balance is key, and that hard work should be accompanied by rest, relaxation and FUN! At ILoveKickboxing-Trinity, what sets us apart from others in our industry is – we become family!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
(Krystyn) Fitness has always been a huge passion for me. But when a shoulder injury left me unable to do my usual workouts, I was lost. That’s when I stumbled upon ILoveKickboxing. I wondered, ‘Could I do kickboxing with my injury?’ So I did a quick Google search and found ILoveKickboxing-Trinity. Little did I know, I was about to join the business that I now own. From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted by name and felt a rush of excitement from the instructors. I knew right then and there that I wanted to make others feel the same way every day. The community at ILoveKickboxing-Trinity was unlike anything I had ever experienced at a gym. They encouraged me to do my best without pushing unrealistic expectations. It was exactly what I needed at the time. As I became stronger and fell more in love with the workouts and community, I became a part-time instructor. It was a dream come true to be a part of something so amazing. And now, at 39 years old, I can proudly say that I have my dream job and I never feel like I’m working a day in my life. Every day, our clients come in with various struggles and emotions. And that’s what I love most about ILoveKickboxing and what I do. We get to know our members on a personal level and help them through their struggles by simply listening and then encouraging them to take it out on the mat. It’s therapeutic for both them and me. I am thrilled to be able to recreate the same feeling I had on my first day walking through these studio doors. It’s an incredible feeling and I am so grateful for the opportunity to share it with others.
(Audra) I have been obsessed with health and fitness ever since I was 16 years old. I spent a good amount of my earlier years waitressing, That was comfortable to me. I always had a pull to help people through fitness instructing, but that would require stepping out of my comfort zone. That terrified me. One day I decided to take a leap of faith and respond to an ILoveKickboxing indeed ad. Here I am over 7 years later living what I have always dreamed of. No matter what walk of life people come from, the moment they walk in our studio’s doors, they are family. We help and support our members through good days, bad days, great heath and we also help them modify through injuries if needed. If you ask any of our members, no matter what they are carrying from the world when they walk in to our studio, it’s so much lighter when they leave. That fact right there is what keeps me motivated to keep sharing to everyone what we do. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE deserves to find a place to better themselves and feel nothing but love and acceptance while doing so. ILoveKickboxing Trinity is that place.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Audra and I (Krystyn) were approached with the opportunity to take over ILoveKickboxing-Trinity. We were completely blown away and felt incredibly honored. It was surreal to think that someone believed in us enough to entrust us with the success of this place. Without hesitation, we said yes! But then came the question: how? The studio was struggling financially and we knew it would take all of our time and resources to turn things around. We’re not where we want to be yet, but we’re determined to get there. And with our hard work, long hours, and passion for what we do and the people we serve, we have no doubt that we’ll get there in no time. Of course, it hasn’t been easy. Audra and I had to sacrifice our own salaries and double our hours just to keep the doors open. But we couldn’t have done it without our amazing team. With their unwavering support and dedication, our growth and progress would not have been possible. And let’s not forget about our loyal clientele base, with over 150 members and counting, who have stood by us through this ongoing transition. Together, we are making remarkable strides every single day!

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Treating Our Team Like Family! At our studio, everyone is valued as an equal and we make sure to keep everyone in the loop with bi-weekly team meetings. But it’s not just about staying informed – we also give each team member a chance to share their ideas and concerns. Plus, we recognize and celebrate each instructor’s unique strengths. We understand that no one can be perfect at everything, so we encourage our team to shine in their areas of expertise. And we know that our instructors have lives outside of work, so we prioritize giving them the time off they need. By treating our staff like family and real human beings, we’ve built the most amazing team imaginable!
