We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krystle Richardson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krystle below.
Krystle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
July 8, 2022, I (Krystle) walked away from a career of seventeen years to pursue my dream of running my very own art-based business. I am a RAW Natural Born Independent Artist specializing in various forms of art and knew that ol’ desk job was not going to cut it for the rest of my life. My soul was hungry for creativity and demanding to be fed.
I ripped off the band-aid and dove in head first without a parachute. Four days later, our business license had been filed and The Omnipotent Workshop came to life. Over the next couple months, Harrison and I worked avidly to build our website, produce our first round of inventory, and make future plans for continued success. October 1, 2022 was launch day for Phase I. We hit that publish button on our website, put the word out to everyone we knew, and we anxiously awaited what was next…
Within our first two weeks of being live, things came to a screeching halt. Our 3D laser printer caught fire, leaving us dead in the water for several weeks. We felt this was a terrible look for our business and feared our prospective clients would lose trust in us so we played it cool and used our down time to continue conjuring up future plans. We were luckily able to order replacement parts, rebuild the machine, and get back to business.
A few days after our machine caught fire, our silent partner dropped out of the running. We had already cashed out our life savings and used the funds for our initial overhead costs. There was nothing left to keep the dream afloat, no job, and no one to help. We thought for sure this would be the end of our very short time in business.
We put on a brave face for our children, and we powered through the only way we know how: tenacious as heck! We hustled like we have never hustled before, knowing it would pay off in due time. We sold belongings, we took on jobs we were not proud of, our credit took a serious hit, we nearly lost our home and our vehicle. We knew getting into business for ourselves was going to be a long, difficult road, but we never anticipated not one, but two tragic happenings would occur right after going live.
Nine months later, our inventory has grown significantly, we are starting to be recognized, our silent partner is back in the running, and we are finally starting to turn a profit. We are preparing to launch Phase II in the very near future with quite the excited outlook! We will say, though, the unexpected issues we endured, along with the aftermath, have sure taught us to count our blessings every day and to be genuinely happy even in the most difficult of times.
Cue the music “Ain’t no stoppin’ us now, we’re on the move!”
Krystle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Om·nip·o·tent / (ämˈnipədənt) / adjective 1. having unlimited power; able to do anything
Our goal at The Omnipotent Workshop is to provide infinite creative solutions. The idea is that our customers will bring their ideas to us, and we will execute the project to surpass their expectations. We are currently in Phase 1, which offers paintings using various mediums/canvases, and laser cutting/engraving services. Subsequent phases will include various forms of 3D printing, custom clothing, accessories, glassware, crocheted creations, and so much more!
Every project we put out is produced with our unique creative touch, catered to our client’s desires. We are ecstatic about working with people from all walks of life and creating things that spark joy in their world. I [Krystle] am a RAW Natural Born Artist. I have been creating for the majority of my life. I’ve never been able to choose one particular form of art over the rest, so I ultimately decided to continue creating all the things! This very attribute is what we believe sets us apart from other creative companies out there.
We want everyone to know that even if we have yet to create something you envision, we can and we will. We offer “guinea pig” discounts on items that will be the first of their kind in our shop. Bring us your idea and let us bring it to life!
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Harrison and I met on ‘MeetMe’, an app designed for meeting people. I was utilizing every social platform I could at the time to find prospective attendees to my art show with RAW Natural Born Artists. We linked in the app and sparked up conversation. I asked him if he liked art, then asked if he was interested in attending my upcoming art show. When the show came around, he meandered his way through thousands of people, making his way to my booth. He spotted me and was “blown away by my beauty,” as he tells it. I looked up after an interaction with a client, and locked eyes with him in the crowd. In that moment, it was if we had tunnel vision and no one else was in the room; an unexplainable magnetism. We have been inseparable since that day. We have had two beautiful boys together, moved across country together, he has obtained his Master’s Degree in Psychology, we have traveled through countless states, we threw ourselves a Halloween themed wedding with all our guests in costume smack dab in the middle of a pandemic, we have started our business, and we plan to continue making the unthinkable happen as long as we shall live.
Thanks for helping me meet my quota, babe. =P
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Here at The Omnipotent Workshop, all of our creations are manufactured in house. We take pride in our craftsmanship and only put out products that meet our own extremely high standards. Being a natural born artist, Krystle takes quickly to new forms of art, keeping learning curves at a minimum and productivity at its highest. We source our materials from reputable companies in store and online, then put our hands and brains to work to convert them to magic.
