We were lucky to catch up with Krysten Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Krysten, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
This could be because my photography business isn’t, currently my main priority, as I have a full time job but what I do differently from the industry standard is that my pricing of my packages. I get so excited for the photos that I take that I have a hard time charging so much for only a certain amount of photos. So what I do is I charge for the session along with access to all of their edited photos.
Krysten, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a local Kansas City photographer who works with both nature/urban backgrounds and portrait photography. I have always had a love for photography since I was a little girl. I would take my disposable camera and take photos of any and everything. I then got to dabble a little bit with developing in the dark room, in my senior year of high school and just loved it! I continued with practicing with my craft and still am constantly working on it to this day.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is just seeing the positive feedback that I get from the work that I do. To see the satisfaction, joy, love and admiration from others when shown what I have done.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Currently, it has not turned into my main or full time business, but it is a dream that I continue to work on.
