We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krystel Petite. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krystel below.
Hi Krystel, thanks for joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Being in the esthetic field has taught me so much thus far. I enjoy the interactions with my clients the most because, not only am I able to be a provider for them, but we also are able to build a great rapport in the limited time in the treatment room. Whatever they decide to share while they’re in my treatment I always hold it near and dear to my heart. I can go on and on about the conversations we have. One conversation with my client stood out to me because it was not one of my best days. Even without going in depth about my situation, she stated “what if the things you are going through so early in the year is getting you prepared for the blessings that are to come.” That stuck with me because not all days are good days as a provider/ business owner and a human in general. It was just a little reminder for me that this too shall pass because good days are to come. This was one of the most kind things a client has done and it had no monetary value.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Penthouse Beaute is a beautification business created in 2019 to address the disproportionate impact of skin care issues plagued by minority women. Our salon will always be a welcoming environment no matter your background with a range of services from waxing, facials, sugaring, and intimate corrective skincare.
Our mission is to promote self-love, body positivity, and skin education through our core pillars of Empowerment, Evolution and Enterprise.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start?
With everyone starting a business and it being so popular on social media no one talks about how they really fund their business. They might vaguely hit certain talking points but that’s it. When I started to branch out on my own, I barely had a plan. I just knew I wanted to start and was presented with an opportunity. I learned along the way that your relationship with your personal funds will certainly translate to your business practice. I was working a full-time job before I went solo, so I gradually saved and bought the supplies I needed. Once I had the basics, I opened and mostly relied on my full-time job to help me at the time and bootstrapping method. I took out no loans however, now looking back make sure you have a plan and expect the unexpected. When you first start, make sure you separate what’s personal and business funds from the beginning, don’t wait till later. It will save you and your accounting so much time.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
When I started Penthouse Beaute Studio, I was new to the DFW so there were no prior relationships I could rely on when it came to clientele. Building clientele is a relationship business where your clients want to know who you are and what you do. Therefore, you have to show your personality and get out of your comfort zone. My main strategy when starting was through social media and networking. I just tried to educate my clients on social media while showcasing my work. Then, once you have a little following that translates to clients you ask for reviews and referrals. Then you’ve won half the battle. Just remember, when being your authentic self, clients will appreciate that and gravitate towards you and then the money will follow, don’t overthink it.
