We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krystal Weisberg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krystal below.
Krystal , appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Since graduating college I have been a ‘right hand’ to business owners and managers. I’ve always had leadership qualities, but I never wanted the additional responsibility that came with being an ‘owner’. I never thought I would have my own business. Now going into my 5th year, it feels like I was meant to do it all along. The pressures and obstacles that come with building, running and maintaining a successful business are all just things that anyone can do really. One day at a time. You figure it out. Now going into my 5th year it is getting tough staying motivated. I work from home and have a virtual fitness business. I do miss working with others sometimes. But not enough to step away from my business. I love what I do because it allows me to help people and support myself in the process. I feel so lucky and my dedication to FLK Method is a direct reflection of my gratitude.

Krystal , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Krystal Weisberg, better known as Krys, is not your average fitness professional. Krys left a successful career in New York City’s nightlife industry to begin a personal and professional journey in fitness—a journey that was years in the making. Diagnosed with a rare vascular disease at the age of 14, her doctors warned her to stay away from intense physical activity. She entered the nightlife industry right after finishing her degree at Pace University. After six years of channeling all of her energies into her career as a marketing executive, the demands of the industry took a significant toll on her physical and mental health. In need of balance and healing, Krys decided that the only option was to leave the city for a new lifestyle, a new life pace, and a new life focus and she moved to Montclair, NJ. At 26 she walked into a yoga studio, scared and unsure of what to expect having never really worked out before. Little did she know, it would be her first class of thousands.
“Yoga paved the way for everything,” says Krys. “It gives you space to think.” Practicing yoga was her “ah-ha” moment and she used it to make a space for herself in the wellness community. Utilizing her marketing skills, Krys started consulting with yoga and fitness studios on marketing, promotions, and more. Eventually she fell in love with the industry and became certified to teach yoga. That was the beginning. She was presented with the opportunity to teach and run her own studio and during that time accumulated over 4 fitness certifications and now teaches over 6 styles of classes—2 of which she created herself. Over the last decade, Krys has cemented her position in the fitness community with her inspiring and unapologetic attitude. She is now a prominent figure on the NJ fitness scene and beyond. In addition to private trainings, she also offers free fitness & accountability challenges on Instagram and has, on average, over 500 participants who take the journey with her on a monthly basis.
For Krys, ‘ FIT ‘ is a mindset and she infuses that philosophy in her programming and training style. It all started with being scared to take her first class, but she walked in anyway. And that’s all you need. The mindset that you can. The reminder of how strong you are. And that no matter what anyone else says or thinks, it’s up to you.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I don’t follow many rules here. When something comes to me I post. I don’t have every social media platform, I just have the one that works for me. I find that if I am enjoying it, I will be consistent with it. I teach this to my clients as well. Too often we try to fit in a box that was made for someone else. You know that shapes game for toddlers? As much as you try, a circle will never fit in a triangle. Lot’s of us are consistently trying to fit into what works for others without being honest about if it is what is best for us. This applies heavily to social media. I have a ‘1 take’ rule. I don’t re-record things. Be yourself, share your actual story. Share your actual life. You will get actual engagement.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I have several platforms to keep my clients engaged. I actually have a person designated as a Relationship & Engagement Koordinator (we spell everything with a K at FLK Method) My instructors are trained a certain way to make sure that our clients feel seen. Plus we have several private chat groups that are open to different tiers of memberships.
If I had to put a percentage on it, 80% of our efforts go into engaging, entertaining and catering to current clients, 20% to acquiring new clients. Our current clients are the heart of our business, and they know it.
