We were lucky to catch up with Krystal Watson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Krystal , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
For the daddy’s girl I am what I cherish most from our relationship is my independent mind frame and resiliency. My dad did construction contract work most of my life. This career choice came with a lot of good highs and bad lows. Through the waves of highs and lows, I saw and was incorporated into our household decision-making at a very young age. For example, in between the slow period, we would have to make groceries, and household washing detergent stretch longer than the normal two weeks. My dad would put me on the hot seat and ask which would be the best decision for our family while going over our budget (mortgage, utilities, Insurance, etc.) what was paid, what we needed, and what we had. If I picked a selfish solution, he would teach me what the impact would look like and even let me feel the impact of my decision by experiencing not being able to play or participate in every extracurricular activity, or missing out on buying snacks at school because my domestic responsibility was greater than that immediate want. In the moment I complained but in the long run, it taught me not to take anything for granted as it humbled me to my reality of being a Watson. These life lessons taught me to be frugal and allowed me to buy my first car at 15 years old on my own. Buying my first car made me take care of my hooptie and appreciate what I invested in while taking care of what I invested in.
I appreciate being placed in those situations because it taught me how to adjust quickly, respond to adversity, and figure things out fast rather than run away from adversity, I take pride in finding the best solution for the issue at hand.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
It all started when I found out I was pregnant with DJ. I was tasked with not just creating life but giving him the best of me. After little support from his father, I had to create a way to teach him financial literacy while producing a steady income outside of the two jobs I work to make ends meet. So, I invested my time in vending because the overhead cost was low, and it wasn’t something I had to show up to every day but could still produce lucrative income. Then the journey started on May 31st, 2020, mid-Covid when half of America was pretty much closed. That downtime allowed me the opportunity to study vending and see the matrix of it being a recession-proof multi-billion-dollar cash business. Therefore, the evolution of DJ’s Snack Bizz LLC was created and has been actively growing in the face of entrepreneurship.
I am super elated to introduce DJ’s Snack Bizz LLC. This is my very first vending machine business, and I am excited to bring you along this journey with me and my team. As a baby, my mother and I started my vending machine business and I want my journey as an underage CEO to inspire You. In a nutshell, my frugal mother thought and said I was too expensive: and wanted to teach me the value of a dollar. This is to ensure I become financially literate, independent, and economically sound. As a single mother, every dollar counts to maintain our dwelling. So, my passion grew quickly when I saw alignment in starting this vending business from the bootstraps. As a mother your child watches and learns from your routine and action so I had to be intentional to change the narrative of how DJ saw me exchange time for money.
Outside of DJ’s Snack Bizz LLC, I work as a full-time serial entrepreneur hosting Air bnb properties as well as running one of Dallas’s black-owned party rental services. Nothing about starting anything new is easy but the power of the unknown forces you to jump outside your comfort zone and build with people who have mastered whatever you seeking to learn. I want the world to know that the scariest thing is not failure. The beauty of failure is learning, growing, and evolving to re-strategize and approach things from a different angle until you reach your intended goal successfully. Invest in yourself it pays the best interest that no one can ever take away.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

As a baby, my mother and I started my vending machine business and I want my journey as an underage CEO to inspire you. In a nutshell, my frugal mother thinks (and sometimes says) that I am too expensive; and wanted to teach me the value of a dollar. This is to ensure I become financially literate, independent, and economically sound. In turn, she started a business just for me. My mom saved her money from different entrepreneurial ventures. It only took 5,000 dollars to cover my first vending machine, the move, and the products to put in the machine.
Through DJ’s Snack Bizz, we make it easy by offering a vast line of products to choose from. We provide unmatched vending services for all kinds of businesses, across the DFW Metropolitan area, with full-service management. That means we get the vending machines installed, ensure that they are fully stocked, and manage any repair issues. The best part, this is all at no cost to you!
I’d like to give credit to the Homeland Security office space that trusted the business and allowed our vision and machines into their location. I’d also like to shout out Karl Watson owner, serial entrepreneur, and my big brother for constantly challenging me to do better and take risks that I normally wouldn’t take.
