We were lucky to catch up with KRYSTAL Vasquez recently and have shared our conversation below.
KRYSTAL, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Epoxy resin was introduced to me by a friend. We started learning and wanted to create art together. I invested and purchased many molds, epoxy, pigments, tools; however, we stopped working together. I looked at the collection I had started and decided to keep going on my own. I started making small coasters and phone grips and that later inspired me to grow and go big! I was commissioned to do an epoxy table top on a vintage stone table. I found my passion for creating one-of-a-kind, functional pieces of art. The best part, they could be upcycled pieces of furniture. In creating that first table top, came about 4 more. I was then asked to be a brand ambassador for Meyspring Pigments, as well as an affiliate for ProMarine Supplies. I’ve met wonderful people and have created pieces I never thought were possible. This was all possible by taking a risk, having faith in my abilities, and wanting to learn and grow.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am currently accepting commissions for epoxy tables, Geode Inspired wall art, and floral preservation. I believe I have a unique style on my table tops. I have yet to see epoxy resin on stone vintage tables. I help people who are looking for custom, one-of-a-kind pieces that can not be duplicated.
I am proud of the tables I’ve created, and seeing how much their new owners love them. It’s especially wonderful going into a business and seeing the art I’ve created on display.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe society can help artists in many ways. If you’re unable to purchase from Artists locally but you appreciate their work- share with a friend or family member! Share via social media. Leave nice words of encouragement! All of these things help keep us going.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I feel I’m on a journey with myself. When I create resin art, I get lost in it. It’s a time to unwind, be free, and have time to myself. My long term goals are to continue creating larger pieces of resin art, while also incorporating other mediums. I’d like to continue growing and learning. I dream of having a small shop one day, with a workspace in the back. One day. 🤍
