We recently connected with Krystal Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
Krystal, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
I want to share a powerful and transformative journey of one of my amazing clients, which also happens to be the best piece of advice I’ve ever given.
When she first came to me, she was determined to break the 200-pound barrier. At 217 pounds, her determination was as strong as steel. As part of my program, we had weekly check-ins where we celebrated every small victory and navigated through each challenge.
As she neared her goal, tipping the scale at 202 pounds, something shifted. Her initial enthusiasm morphed into an obsession. Each week, for five long weeks, her weight fluctuated between 200 to 205 pounds. I could see the frustration building up in her eyes, the kind that comes from being so close yet feeling miles away.
That’s when I realized, it was time for a different approach. I asked her to do something that seemed counterintuitive – to step away from the scale. I encouraged her to shift her focus from the numbers to her habits. It was all about logging her food, staying hydrated, and being consistent with her workouts. I explained how stress, especially the kind induced by the constant pressure of the scale, can be a huge roadblock in weight loss.
Reluctantly, but trustingly, she agreed. For the next five weeks, she didn’t step on the scale. Instead, she poured her energy into maintaining her healthy habits. The result? When she finally stepped back on the scale, it read 197.4 pounds! She had not only achieved her goal but had also learned a valuable lesson about patience and focusing on the journey, not just the destination.
This experience reinforced my belief that sometimes, the best progress comes when we stop watching the scale and start listening to our bodies. It’s about the holistic journey, not just the numbers. And that, I believe, is the essence of true transformation.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey into the world of fitness and health began somewhat unexpectedly. Back in 2014, while working as a corporate trainer, I decided to push my limits and entered a figure competition. As an Army veteran, I was no stranger to physical training, but this challenge ignited a new passion in me. I became fascinated by the transformative power of fitness – how it can reshape the body and the mind, and the sheer joy of feeling strong.
As I shared my journey and results on social media, friends and family started reaching out for training advice. I jumped in, thrilled by the opportunity to help others achieve their goals. It was incredibly rewarding to see their transformations, and that’s when it clicked – I had a knack for creating practical yet challenging workouts that delivered real results.
However, I was doing it all for free, driven by passion rather than profit. It was my husband who saw the potential in my passion, encouraging me to turn it into a career. So, I took the leap, becoming a Certified Personal Trainer, and added specializations in Fitness Nutrition, Weight Management, and Senior Fitness.
My professional journey took off when I posted about a virtual fitness program on social media, and to my delight, I gained my first three clients on day one. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of helping over 100 women transform their lives, guiding them to tone, lose weight, and gain confidence.
At the core of my services is the SHIFT Coaching Program, a monthly offering that’s the heartbeat of my business. SHIFT isn’t just another fitness program; it’s a transformative journey designed for women who are ready to embrace a healthier lifestyle without the extreme measures often seen in the fitness world.
I specialize in helping women, particularly those between the ages of 45-65, to lose weight without excessive dieting or prolonged exercise sessions. My approach is unique because it focuses on sustainable lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes. I provide personalized workout plans, nutritional guidance, and, most importantly, emotional and motivational support throughout their journey.
What sets me apart is my holistic approach. I believe in balance – helping clients achieve their goals while ensuring they enjoy life. It’s about creating a sustainable, healthy lifestyle, not just chasing a number on the scale.
The aspect of my work that fills me with the most pride is helping women lead healthier lifestyles. My approach goes beyond superficial goals. I’m not just a coach who focuses on weight loss for vanity’s sake. Instead, I take a holistic approach, ensuring that the journey to weight loss is healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable.
The transformations I facilitate aren’t just about shedding pounds; they’re about instilling confidence and empowering women to maintain their new, healthier lifestyles long-term. It’s not just about what’s lost but what’s gained – strength, confidence, and a renewed zest for life.
At Fitness Is NOT A Game, we believe that fitness is fun, but it’s not just a game. It’s a path to a better, healthier, and happier you. And that’s the message and experience I strive to deliver to every client who joins our family.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The secret sauce to expanding my clientele has been the introduction of challenges, ranging from 5 to 30 days. These challenges are much more than just a sneak peek into my program; they are a window into my world and my unique coaching style.
I’ve found that giving prospective clients a chance to ‘test drive’ my approach helps build a deeper connection. They don’t just get to know the program; they get to know me – Krystal Taylor, a health and fitness coach who’s passionate about making fitness fun and attainable for everyone.
Through these challenges, they experience firsthand how I blend motivation, practical advice, and a touch of humor to make the journey toward health and fitness an enjoyable one. It’s not just about pushing limits; it’s about discovering a new, sustainable way of living that doesn’t demand hours at the gym or restrictive diets.
This approach has been incredibly effective because it allows people to feel a part of our community, experience real results, and see the potential in what a longer-term commitment could bring. It’s more than just a trial; it’s the beginning of a transformation journey, and I am there with them every step of the way, cheering them on and guiding them through the ups and downs.
By the end of these challenges, they’ve not only seen a glimpse of the physical results they can achieve but also experienced the supportive and empowering environment that Fitness Is NOT A Game is all about. And more often than not, they’re excited to continue their journey with me, turning these short challenges into long-term successes.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
In my journey as a health and fitness coach, I’ve found that empathy and emotional intelligence are indispensable tools. It’s essential to recognize that each client is a unique individual, with a life full of complexities that directly impact their fitness journey.
My role goes beyond providing workouts and nutritional advice; it’s about understanding the human element. Every client comes with their own set of challenges, fears, and aspirations. Whether it’s managing a busy schedule, dealing with personal stressors, or battling internal doubts, these factors play a crucial role in their success.
As a coach, I strive to create a space where my clients feel seen, heard, and understood. This means actively listening, showing genuine concern, and adjusting my coaching to align with their emotional and physical needs. It’s about being a supportive guide who not only cheers them on but also empathizes with their struggles.
My approach has always been to be a friend and mentor, not just a trainer. This perspective comes from my own experiences as an Army veteran, a corporate trainer, and a fitness enthusiast who’s faced her own set of challenges. I understand that fitness is not just a physical journey but an emotional one too.
By integrating empathy and emotional intelligence into my coaching, I can connect with my clients on a deeper level. This connection not only helps them achieve their fitness goals but also empowers them to embrace a healthier, more balanced lifestyle, something I deeply value and promote through my brand, Fitness Is NOT A Game.
