We recently connected with Krystal Rumph and have shared our conversation below.
Krystal, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Oh, this is a great question! My parents are amazing. Growing up as an only child, My parents taught me the importance of being independent as well the value and significance of being a leader. I learned rather quickly in life that I wouldn’t have siblings or people around me to influence my behavior or my thoughts. That one factor within itself has been advantageous to my success and to my life.
My Mom was born in Selma Alabama and raised on a farm there, in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement. My Father is also from a very small rural area outside of Montgomery Alabama. It is safe to say they came from humble beginnings, therefore, they taught me the importance of hard work, saving, and investing. As just a teenager I got my first job at the age of 13 and learned the process of budgeting and saving for a Sunny and Rainy day. Sunny days savings are vacations, investments, or anything that is a “want ” and not a necessity. I lived out of only 20% of earnings from working and this allowed me to purchase my first investment property at the age of 23.
Growing up, I saw my parents work, save, and invest in real estate. Seeing them flip and create affordable housing and rental properties for people, really inspired me. They are a part of my “Why” . They are the reason that I’m in real estate today. My desire is to help people that don’t have the knowledge of home ownership become homeowners. Although I am a luxury Realtor, My motto is “People before Profit ” so I welcome and help all of my clients achieve home ownership regardless of their price point, Real estate is the most consistent way to build wealth, therefore it is truly an honor to serve by finding my clients their dream home or to contribute to their legacy of financial freedom.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Krystal, I’m a luxury Realtor, investor, and Certified Personal Trainer. The purpose of my brand in any dimension is simple, it’s to help. I learned many years ago that it is better to give than it is to receive, therefore my career in every way possible is built upon service. I’m a Licensed Alabama Realtor, that also provides services such as Buying, Selling, or leasing to the Georgia area. I’ve served as Realtor for nearly two years, however I have over a decade of experience in the real estate industry. I’ve worked as an investor in the real estate industry for nearly 11 years. I believe everyone deserves access to home ownership no matter where they are financially, therefore I use my flip or home renovation projects as a way to create affordable housing within a beautiful environment. Yes, I understand everyone may not be able to purchase a home at the time, which is why I also work with rental homes. I pride myself in being a source of knowledge and help. My slogan is “Making Home Ownership Crystal Clear” and I believe that I deliver. In 2021 I was awarded “Rookie of the Year ” by my brokerage. This year I’ve also been awarded “Top Agent ” two months in a row by my Brokerage and inducted into the Elite Million dollar Sales Club, which is truly an honor! Prior to becoming a Realtor, I made fitness and living healthy a passion of mine. I have over seven years of experience in being a Certified Personal Trainer. I’m one of those trainers that has a realistic understanding of the relationship that people have with food. I’ve been overweight before and I’ve been questionably slim before. I know how it feels to not understand where your’e going wrong with your diet and why weight loss can sometimes feel stagnant without a trendy crash diet. This understanding itself is my “Why” . I became a Personal trainer because I wanted the knowledge of proper dieting, workouts, and exercise form: not only for myself but to help other people that were facing the same difficulties that I once was. I tell my clients ” I want you to workout not because you hate yourself, but because you love yourself instead”. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about… Loving yourself enough to create healthier habits. If you can achieve your fitness goals (whatever they may be) you can literally achieve anything in life that you desire!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One thing I had to unlearn in my business is that I’m not “just Krystal “. I’m Krystal the brand. I’m Krystal that makes homeownership Crystal Clear. I’m Krystal, the Certified Trainer and business owner. Now, this isn’t to say that your Career is your identity, However … I am saying if you are moving in purpose, realize that sometimes it’s bigger than you. Be authentically yourself but be conscious of the perception and the energy that you’re giving out. You are the biggest part of your brand, therefore it’s never “just you”. We literally have the power to create our dream brand or our dream life simply by speaking it, living as though we believe what we have spoken, and showing up! Do something today that contributes to your dream life, dream brand, or whatever it is that you desire, It’s already yours.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
One Book that has helped me the most in serving my clients is “The People Factor ” written by Van Moody. When starting a business, we often hear about ways to gain funding or how to scale our business financially. These are important factors however not many people discuss the importance of communication skills when starting a business or being in a service-based field. Oftentimes it’s not that the product is lacking, it is the communication barrier that can sometimes play a role in the perception of your service or even the morale among your staff. This book (which is faith-based) has helped me in all aspects of my life and I highly recommend it!
