Krystal, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
There were a few defining moments for me.
Six years ago, when I was working in the fitness industry, I realized that like most people, I was working a job to pay the bills; I was NOT working in a field that I was passionate about. A huge defining moment for me was when I finally decided that I was worthy and capable of creating a career out of my passions, instead of hoping to have time for my passions after finishing with my work. My passion is helping people heal from the inside out and guiding them towards mental and emotional balance, as well as achieving vitality in their physical health.
Another defining moment for me happened after deciding that the holistic health field was my calling. I was still working in a transitionary ‘career’ of a Network Marketing Company, but instead of helping the customers grow their organizations, I was getting on coaching calls with them and helping them to rewire their minds, overcome limiting beliefs and set goals for themselves. People I had never met would tell me their most traumatic experiences within 5 minutes of our first conversation. That’s when I knew. I was SUPPOSED to help them. I spent hours with people for free as they unraveled the traumas of their childhood and learned valuable tools to overcome them. I realized that helping people make money in a network marketing space was valuable to them, but MY value for others was more in the form of helping teach mindset work and working with emotional stability. I felt that the state of one’s mind dictated the quality of their lives. In fact, I knew this to be true, based on my own experience. Over time, I also noticed a pattern. I never told any two people the same exact advice. Each of us have unique experiences, environments, upbringing, etc. Even two people with similar backgrounds or experiences would be affected by them in different ways. I learned about the ways our foods affect us mentally and emotionally, and began to incorporate health coaching in my healing sessions. Like mental health and emotional balance, no two people have the same nutritional needs. Each of these realizations were steps for me in creating and defining the Krystal Longmire Wellness business. The realization that there IS no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to mental health, emotional balance and nutritional needs is also what led me to be create personalized experiences for my clients. I think that letting go of the cookie cutter ‘solutions’ that are offered all over the internet and actually allowing for a more personal experience is a necessary step towards living your healthiest and happiest life – on YOUR terms.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was raised in two different cultures by parents who had been divorced since the age of 5. By the time I reached college age, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life (as is common for most 18 year olds), but I was urged to go to a university, so I chose to study biology to become a veterinarian. After 2.5 years of working full time and going to college full time, I was burnt out and exhausted. I had learned that my chosen career would take an additional 8 years of school and I didn’t have it in me. So I left school and decided to find a career without a degree. I landed at a sales job, selling gym memberships. I was working 55+ hours per week, had college debt with no degree, and had racked up thousands in credit card debt. I was stressed about finances, got a 2nd and 3rd job to make ends meet, and was constantly riddled with anxiety that I managed with cannabis. I only had one day off per week, and that was often spent on errands, laundry and cooking for the following week. I was an angry person, with a victim mentality who felt that lie was a constant cycle of, “same BS, different day”. I joined the military at the age of 29 because I thought it would solve all my problems. It didn’t.
Somewhere along the line, I met my now husband. We started dating while working together at this gym. I had a lot of baggage from past relationships that I brought into our space, so we fought a great deal. In addition to my anger issues and financial challenges, relationship struggles made my anxiety worse. Cannabis no longer helped. That’s when I tried yoga and fell absolutely in love. My anxiety began to get better. Shortly after, we moved out of state and I attended a personal development conference where the man on the stage asked, “what do you want?” I realized I didn’t know. This was pivotal for me. Allowing myself to actually WANT what I really wanted – not what society wanted me to want, not what my parents wanted me to want, not what I thought I should want – is what got me into my current field. I read tons of books. I acquired certifications in yoga, chakras, meditation, energy healing, reiki, and holistic nutrition. I began using the skills and knowledge I had acquired to help my clients get to any desired outcome for them. I learned to look at all challenges holistically, and therefore have been able to help people heal from emotional traumas, rewire their mindsets positively, and learn to take care of their bodies lovingly to become the best version of themselves.
I work with plant medicine and aromatherapy to help clients transition away from chemical products in their homes, especially as they evolve to a holistic lifestyle. I offer 1 on 1 coaching sessions and packages as well. Clients can choose from Healing Sessions (where we identify negative patterns, find the source of these patterns, do some energy work, and learn techniques to release emotions that no longer serve them), Health Coaching (where we identify health concerns, look at household products, environmental factors and contents of the kitchen and devise a plan to get the family on the right track) or Life Coaching Sessions (where we combine Health Coaching and Healing Sessions and add goal-setting and dream-building strategies). What sets me apart from others is the personal experience I provide. I will never give blanket advice or recommendations. I don’t believe in “one right way” or “one size fits all”. I feel that hopping on trends in the health industry (both mental and physical) actually can create more challenges. I help my clients realize the immense power and capability they have inside of them. I teach them tools and techniques based on their own needs, but the magic isn’t in me. I’m just the messenger. The magic is in THEM. What also sets me apart is that I’m going to help each client find a real solution; I don’t want my clients dependant on me. I want them to graduate from me, spread their wings and fly on their own. I’ve had people tell me ‘it’s bad for business’ to not find ways to keep clients. I’m actually proud of the fact that I don’t do what I do for the money or for forever customers. I do it because it changes people’s lives. And THAT is my passion. I’m always here to empower and educate, and I do have long term clients, but it’s not because they need me.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think the most important thing in my field (and most fields) is to put people first. It can be easy to focus on money, as we need it to survive. However, on my personal journey towards creating my business and learning how I can best serve the community and my clients, the money has never been my focus. There’s a saying I read in a book: help enough people get what they want, and you will get what you want. For a lot of people, what they want is money. For me, it’s the fulfillment of seeing the changes in my client’s lives. I genuinely care if my clients see transformation. I care if they’re hurting or struggling. I want to be able to guide them towards whatever their bliss is. Holistic health is trending right now and you can see it all over social media. People are capitalizing of the trend. I don’t care about the trend. I care about the people and the success stories. My clients can feel my genuine heart, and that’s how I’ve built a profitable business – by not focusing on the money :)
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I was learning about holistic health, studying yoga and altering my own lifestyle, I ran into a road block. Formerly, I was a meat and potatoes girl. I didn’t consume veggies, loved meat and starches, didn’t drink water, and was still carrying a great deal of trauma that I hadn’t yet releases. Through my studies, I began cutting out red meat, caffeine, pork, and anything else that I felt wasn’t helping me to thrive. I didn’t introduce supplements or vegetables when I did this, and it caused my body to go into shock. In December of 2020, I had an intense health scare. I had seemingly unconnected symptoms including – heart palpitations, heartburn, shortness of breath, tingling extremities, anxiety, nausea, headaches, and several more. I endured these challenges for a few weeks before finding a Holistic Doctor and receiving proper supplementation and food recommendations. This experience showed me just how powerful our bodies are and how they can thrive when fed properly. It encouraged me to study holistic nutrition and it made me realize that the best way to get to space where you are thriving is to get a coach or a mentor. Even in my field and with my expertise, I have coaches and mentors for various sectors of my life. This ensures that I’m always on track for my goals and it helps me continue to grow so I can better serve others.
