We were lucky to catch up with Krystal De Lisi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve had the privilege to work on is the collaboration between Underclub and genEquality. This project holds a special place in my heart because it was born out of a genuine desire to celebrate and amplify the power of female friendship and empowerment.
It all began with a dynamic gathering of diverse female leaders from various sectors, coming together to discuss topics of empowerment, vulnerability, and mutual support. This event served as the spark that ignited our collaborative efforts, fueled by a shared passion to uplift and empower women.
From there, we embarked on a journey to bring this vision to life. We enlisted the talents of artist Zuzu Perkal, who beautifully captured the essence of our conversations in her (BE)Friend artwork. This visual representation serves as a poignant reminder of the strength found in women supporting each other.
Through initiatives like our panel discussion at SXSW’s Culture Track series, titled “The Power of Friendship: How Female Bonds Amplify Female Leadership,” we continued to amplify our message of empowerment and support. It was an incredible opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions alongside powerhouse women like Sherry Hakimi, Reema Sampat, and Wendy Davis.
What makes this project truly meaningful to me is the impact it has had on fostering a community of women supporting women. It’s about more than just underwear; it’s about building connections, inspiring empowerment, and driving positive change. Knowing that our efforts are contributing to the growth and empowerment of women everywhere fills me with immense pride and gratitude.
Krystal, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Diving into creativity with purpose! With over two decades of experience, I’ve been on a journey to bring imagination to life and make a lasting impact.
Currently, I’m the Creative Director at Underclub in Austin, TX, where I spearhead initiatives like “UC Studios” and impactful collaborations. One collaboration close to my heart is with genEquality, where we’ve joined forces to empower women through creative projects.
What sets me apart? I thrive on making meaningful connections and turning visions into vibrant realities. I’m most proud of the moments where I’ve empowered women through innovative projects and collaborations.
Have you ever had to pivot?
After dedicating 14 years to the corporate fashion industry, I reached a pivotal moment where I knew it was time for a change—for both myself and my family. In 2019, we made the bold decision to uproot our lives from New York and relocate to Austin. Initially uncertain about my career path in this new city, I embarked on a journey of exploration driven by networking and curiosity. It was during this period of self-discovery that I realized my passion for empowering women through product creation and branding. Recognizing a gap in the market, I founded The Edit Advisory—a platform dedicated to helping women transform their passion into purposeful businesses. This transition not only reignited my professional drive but also allowed me to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My partnership with Katie, the founder of Underclub, began when she became a client of mine after I launched The Edit Advisory. I noticed Katie distributing underwear at a women’s meet-up group, which immediately caught my attention due to my background in the lingerie industry. Recognizing an opportunity to contribute my creative skills to her business, I approached Katie to discuss potential projects I could do for her. Initially, I provided creative services to Underclub through my venture, The Edit Advisory. Over time, Katie saw the value in integrating my expertise more fully into Underclub’s operations, leading to the transition of client to full-time Creative Director of Underclub. In this role, I was excited to apply my experience and help shape the brand’s creative direction and growth.
