Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Krystal Chryssomallis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Krystal, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
Yes, I’m deeply passionate about supporting children’s wellbeing and education.
That’s why I have partnered with UNICEF to help support the needs of kids around the globe. Every limited-edition fine art print I sell directly supports UNICEF’s “school-in-a-box” program, ensuring that at least 40 children receive educational supplies they need to learn and grow.
I have been working with UNICEF for over 7 years and have had the privilege of volunteering in 6 countries. Seeing the impact of their programs firsthand – meeting the children, listening to their stories, and connecting with the dedicated teachers – has only strengthened by commitment to doing more for this cause.
My hope is that my art not only brings a piece of joy and positivity into people’s homes, but also provides children a chance to education and a healthy life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I discovered my passion for photography while working as an Executive Producer on Yanni’s global music tour, where I realized how powerful visual storytelling can be. Today, I work as both a consultant and a photographer, helping businesses and brands tell their stories through visual media and strategic guidance. Whether I’m documenting cultural narratives, capturing high-level events or building businesses, I blend my background in marketing and production to deliver impactful images that resonate.
I offer photography services for high-profile events, corporate clients, nonprofits, and unique experiences, specializing in capturing the energy, emotion, and human stories behind the scenes. My clients rely on me to navigate challenging environments, create high-quality visuals under tight timelines, and deliver images that truly capture their brand’s message.
What sets me apart is my ability to work in challenging environments while creating work that connects on a deeper, human level. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients and the trust they place in me to deliver powerful, meaningful work.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes, my side hustle as a photographer and consultant grew into my full-time career. As an Executive Producer and marketer, I produced over 500 events in 60+ countries, which is where my passion for photography began. I started capturing the soul of the people and cultures we worked with, sharing these images with local promoters. Over time, my photography was featured in magazines, album covers, billboards, and marketing materials.
Eventually, I launched a website to sell my art and began doing gallery exhibitions. I feel people connected deeply with my work because it highlighted the beauty and joy that exists in the world—a reminder that even amidst the chaos, there’s always good to be found.
I’ve never pushed this part of my career; I’ve simply followed where it leads and trusted my intuition. Now, I’m booking impactful shoots with corporate and mission-driven brands and will be exhibiting in 2025. I’m excited to see what’s next!
Have you ever had to pivot?
One significant pivot for me occurred during the pandemic like so many of us did. As an executive producer and marketer, I was heavily reliant on live events, which came to a halt almost overnight. Faced with this challenge, I had to rethink my approach and find new ways to connect with my audience and clients and find a new path.
I decided to focus on my photography and storytelling, using the time to refine my craft and explore new creative projects. I began sharing my work online more actively and launched a series of virtual exhibitions, showcasing the beauty and resilience of the cultures I had photographed over the years. This not only allowed me to stay engaged with my audience but also opened up new opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with brands that aligned with my values.
This pivot helped sustain my business during a challenging time and deepened my appreciation for the power of visual storytelling. I’ve since booked impactful shoots with corporate and mission-driven brands, which has further fueled my passion for creating meaningful connections through my work.
