We recently connected with Krystal Brinson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Krystal thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
How did you go from idea to execution when starting Krystal Brinson Studios?
Turning the idea of Krystal Brinson Studios into a reality didn’t happen overnight. Before I ever began servicing clients, I spent a significant amount of time perfecting my craft. I invested in education, practiced consistently, learned new techniques, and studied the different styles of makeup to understand what would work best for different clients and occasions.
My background as a licensed cosmetologist gave me a strong foundation. I was able to revisit and build upon many of the concepts I had learned years earlier, including color theory, skin types, product knowledge, sanitation, and client care. That knowledge helped me develop a deeper understanding of not only how makeup should look, but also how products function and perform on different skin tones and textures.
As I continued growing as an artist, I became very intentional about the services I wanted to offer and the type of makeup experience I wanted to create. I realized I wasn’t just interested in applying makeup—I wanted to help people feel confident, beautiful, and empowered.
When it came time to launch Krystal Brinson Studios, I made a commitment that every client would receive more than just a makeup service. I wanted each appointment to be a memorable experience. From the moment a client sits in my chair, my goal is to make them feel comfortable, celebrated, and confident. I believe that the experience is just as important as the final look, and that’s what has helped me build lasting relationships with my clients and create a business that people want to return to again and again.
Today, Krystal Brinson Studios is a reflection of years of dedication, education, creativity, and a genuine passion for helping people look and feel their best.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How did you get into the beauty industry?
I’ve always had a love for beauty. From a young age, I enjoyed doing my own makeup and styling my own hair. That passion eventually led me to pursue a career in cosmetology, and I began my journey in the beauty industry as a hairstylist.
While I enjoyed doing hair and learned a tremendous amount during that time, I eventually realized that it wasn’t fulfilling me in the way I had hoped. I knew I was creative, but I felt like there was another avenue where I could express that creativity more fully. That’s when I started focusing on makeup.
Almost immediately, makeup felt like a natural fit. It allowed me to tap into my artistic side in a way that felt effortless and exciting. What I love most about makeup is the ability to start with very little and create something truly special. Whether it’s a soft, natural glam, a dramatic evening look, or a creative Halloween transformation, I get the opportunity to take the ideas and visions that exist in my mind and bring them to life.
Makeup gives me the freedom to express creativity without limits. Every face becomes a canvas, and every client presents a new opportunity to create something unique. Seeing a look come together from a simple idea and watching someone’s confidence transform in the process is incredibly rewarding.
Even today, I’m still amazed by what can be created through makeup. There are moments when I step back and look at my work and think, “Wow, I actually brought that vision to life.” That feeling never gets old. It’s what continues to inspire me, challenge me, and remind me why I fell in love with this industry in the first place.
For me, makeup isn’t just a service—it’s art, it’s self-expression, and it’s a way to help people see themselves in a new light. That’s what makes it so special.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
How did you fund Krystal Brinson Studios?
One of the biggest factors in building Krystal Brinson Studios has been maintaining a full-time career while growing my business. Currently, I work a 9-to-5 as an Intake Coordinator for a community-based program. While balancing a full-time job and running a business can definitely be challenging at times, it has also been one of the greatest tools in helping me build my business from the ground up.
My full-time job allowed me to invest in Krystal Brinson Studios without having to rush the process or make decisions based solely on financial pressure. From securing the professional space where I provide services to purchasing quality products, equipment, and tools, my 9-to-5 helped me create the experience I envisioned for my clients. It gave me the ability to continuously improve my services, invest in education, and elevate the overall client experience at a much faster pace than I may have been able to otherwise.
Today, I’m proud to say that Krystal Brinson Studios pays for itself and then some. However, getting to this point required patience, consistency, and a willingness to work both jobs while laying a solid foundation for the business.
One piece of advice I often share with aspiring entrepreneurs is not to feel pressured to quit your full-time job immediately. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using your 9-to-5 as a tool to fund your dream. In fact, it can provide stability, reduce stress, and allow you to make strategic investments in your business as it grows. My full-time job wasn’t something that held me back—it was something that helped propel me forward.
For anyone looking to start a business, I would encourage you to secure and maintain a reliable source of income until your business is consistently generating enough revenue to support the lifestyle you want. Building a successful business takes time, and having that financial foundation can give you the freedom to grow your business intentionally, sustainably, and with confidence.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
What’s been the most effective strategy for building your clientele?
Without a doubt, the most effective strategy has been consistency.
I believe people want to do business with someone they can trust, and trust is built through consistency. I consistently show up when I say I’m going to show up. I consistently provide quality service, and I consistently strive to deliver work that leaves my clients satisfied and excited to return.
For me, building clientele has never been about finding a quick fix or a secret marketing strategy. It’s about showing up every day and doing the work. It’s about continually looking for ways to improve the client experience, refining my techniques, investing in education, and finding new ways to provide even better services to the people who trust me with their beauty needs.
Beyond the makeup itself, authenticity has played a huge role in my growth. I genuinely care about my clients. I take the time to pour into them, encourage them, and make them feel seen and valued. When clients sit in my chair, I want them to leave with more than just beautiful makeup—I want them to leave feeling more confident, empowered, and appreciated than when they arrived.
I’ve found that people may initially book because they like your work, but they return because of how you make them feel. By consistently delivering great service, maintaining professionalism, being reliable, and building genuine relationships, I’ve been able to create loyal clients who not only come back but also refer their friends and family.
At the end of the day, my formula is simple: be consistent, be authentic, keep improving, and always put the client experience first. That’s been one of the biggest keys to the growth of Krystal Brinson Studios.
