Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Krystal & Anna Herrera-Crouse. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Krystal & Anna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
We are so happy pursuing our creative career path! Are there still stresses and hiccups? Absolutely. However, the issues are so much easier to face when you’re pursuing what you love. Also, we have the benefit of being in this together as both business and life partners. We have each other to problem-solve with, high-five when we’ve made an accomplishment, and to commiserate when things are less than ideal. We are building something beautiful, and that is so much more rewarding when you get to do it with someone you love. Having both been in a “9 to 5” before, we wouldn’t trade where we are for that.

Krystal & Anna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Krystal has been building and crafting practically her whole life, while Anna is fairly new to the world of handcrafted goods/home dècor. Together, though, we have expanded our creative expression to new heights. Our Haus of Crouse brand offers a wide range of services/goods. Yes, we create beautiful and expertly crafted home dècor, but we also provide amazing floral design for both the home and events, as well as full-service dècor services. We can take any vision, whether it be for a home dècor piece, or an entire wedding, and make it come to life more beautifully than our clients even imagined. What sets us apart across the board is our attention to every little detail, the time and effort that goes into even the smallest piece, and our commitment to always delivering the best quality product possible. We want our customers to see and feel the difference in our craftsmanship.
Also, we feel it is very important to set ourselves apart as a brand. We have a very particular brand aesthetic that can be seen in every creation, in our website, in our packaging, and our presentation. We don’t cut corners anywhere and we believe that shows in everything we do.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
We are both artists through and through, and that type of brain operates differently. There are always a million ideas begging to be brought to life running through our heads. As artists, we get to take each spark of creative life and nurture it into a tangible, real thing. The satisfaction that brings is something only an artist/creative can truly understand. Once you are excited by an idea/project, you can’t stop until its a real thing you can hold in your hand.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Supporting handcrafted, and, ideally, locally made, goods is the best way to support and encourage a thriving creative community. By taking the time to go to vendor markets and fairs, you have the opportunity to experience art and craftsmanship you may not have even known existed. It’s exciting to see what people create, to see how they take something that may have been done before and give it a new incarnation. There is so much more value in purchasing a handcrafted product from your local artisan. You get to see, in person, who you are supporting and, not only are you receiving a much better product than something that has been mass-produced and distributed through a national chain, you are ensuring that we as a society don’t lose the skill sets that make us such a unique species. We build and create not just out of necessity, but for the pure beauty of it. That’s a pretty amazing thing.
