We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krystal Adams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krystal below.
Alright, Krystal thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I am all about thinking outside of the box, standing out in a crowd and finding something unique but still true to who you are! The name Bougie Bakerie Kandles came about when I combined two of my favorite things: home fragrance and culinary/pastry arts! 1.) I am obsessed with home fragrances! I really believe that your home should always smell amazing! Before starting BBK I would spend a few hundred dollars a month on home fragrance products!
2.)My dream has always been to visit France and immerse myself in their world of cooking and fine dining so I decided to combine the two and that is how I came up with Bougie Bakerie Kandles!
When people see the name Bougie Bakerie Kandles, they automatically think BOUJEE as in “bad and boujee”, which is not the case! BOUJEE and BOUGIE are both French but have different meanings. Boujee which comes from bourgeois means having middle class standards or a luxurious lifestyle while BOUGIE actually means candle. In translation Bougie Bakerie Kandles actually means The Kandle Bakerie of Kandles but that didn’t sound appealing or catchy enough to me so I took my initial name The Kandle Bakerie and added some style and flair to it and we now have….Bougie Bakerie Kandles!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Krystal Adams. I am a US Army Veteran and Louisiana native. I am the owner and operator of Bougie Bakerie Kandles. Bougie Bakerie Kandles is a candle company that makes and sell bakery scented and dessert inspired candles, wax melts, soaps, body butters and more! I created Bougie Bakerie Kandles out of my obsession for home fragrance and French cuisine and fine dining. If you want your home to smell like you walked into a French patisserie then look no further! Bougie Bakerie Kandles is AND should be your one stop shop for all things home fragrance!
What I am most proud of when it comes to business and what gives me joy is when customers tell me that my kandles/products not only look amazing and delicious but made their homes smell incredible. I also love the fact that customers always say that my kandles are so pretty that they dont want to burn them! Burn them, please! My website is 24 hours!
What sets me a part from other chandlers is not only my experience and passion but what you get from me is genuine. The Krystal that you meet at markets, festivals and shows is the same Krystal 365 days a year. There is no business ON business OFF switch or mode for me. If you see me out with my family shopping or anywhere, I am the same person that would greet you with a warm smile and conversation as if you were at my booth at a festival!
One thing that I want potential clients, followers and fans to know about BBK is that everything that I sell is made by me! I take pride in knowing what ingredients my products are made of. You will never get a response of let me get back to you concerning a product of mine. Also, I pour my heart and soul into making kandles so what you get from me is made with love, passion and pride.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been signing up for local markets and festival. Doing this has helped drive new customers and clients to my business. I also do a few Facebook adds and digital marketing billboard ads to increase brand awareness but markets, festivals and shows have always been the best source of new clients and customers for me.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
So about year and a half ago I met a chandler who seemed very eager to meet me and I felt the same way….needless to say when we finally met up this person was not at all how they perceived to be. I was asked personal questions pertaining to business finances like how much I grossed every month and then calculated that in a year and then proceeded to tell me not to open up a storefront and their reason why. The entire conversation caught me off guard and hurt so bad. I started second guessing myself and every business decision that I had made. I didn’t ask for any of the unsolicited advice that was thrown my way. I was depressed for a while and started to believe that maybe I wasn’t ready to open up a store and I had also slacked off making kandles. Then one day my husband came to me and said dont let someone else’s opinion of you get you down and start making you second guess yourself. People see something in you and it scares them because you are now their competition and they see you as a threat. Don’t let that stop you from accomplishing great things. He also said that if my product wasn’t worth it that he would’ve told me a long time ago (lol) but he has witnessed first hand how people love my products.
I’ve always considered myself to be a very confident woman but that doesn’t mean words don’t hurt or affect me, I’m human. My husband was right and I knew that without him having to say a word but what he said was exactly what I needed to hear at that moment! I started back making kandles and doing markets and festival and July 2022 I had opened up my first brick and mortar location! Unfortunately, I’ve decided to close my store location in Feb 2023 due to ongoing issues with management but that doesn’t mean give up. That doesn’t mean that I’m done! If I let every word that I hear break me then I’m already defeated. I’m not going to walk around with a defeatist attitude. If I do that then I’ve already lost. I’m going to continue to push through and keep striving for excellence until I am where I am meant to be!
