We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krysta Solomon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krysta below.
Krysta, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Krysta Rene Photography started after I received my first professional camera back in 2018. My father-in-law was a talented, well-known photographer in my area and when he sadly passed from a terrible illness, I was gifted the most precious gift. I began to teach myself the basics and continue to grow in education. What was merely a hobby, blossomed into a well built clientele with returning customers and new clients each month. So many emotions come with this profession for me. I am proud to continue to carry my father-in-laws camera and continue his passion. I am in love with what I do on a professional and personal level. I knew after the first few months of photographing others what I wanted to take it full time. It’s a passion.
Krysta, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After receiving the camera from a loved one, I began to self teach. I read books and watched tutorials on posing, editing and continue to learn with each passing year. I love being a photographer because I get to capture memories for so many. It is said that a photographer could be the one to carry the very last photo of a loved one and that hits me in every way. I am proud of the relationships I’ve maintained with clients over the past 6.5 years. I feel like many clients have become like family. I have watched families grow, I’ve watched couples get married and become parents and I’ve photographed memories that are forever etched in time. One of my strongest qualities as a business is building a relationship and my comfort working with children. As a mother of a beautiful little girl, I know how kids tick. I know that sometimes we must go with the flow and work with their personalities. When I take your photos, we become family!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Covid truly was a test for most businesses. But, being a self-employed personalized business during COVID, it was a struggle. It was a tough time. During COVID it was so important to pivot and find new ways to market to clients and keep them in the loop with my business. During this time I promoted my services for front porch sessions. I was able to keep current clientele and I also had the chance to meet lots of new clients.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am a mom first. I have always been determined to put my daughter first. But, sometimes as a working mom, you struggle with balance. Owning a business with a child requires constant pivoting. As my daughter continues to grow, I have to balance my time of session booking, editing and marketing. I am a one woman show in this business and it’s important to stop and take a break from time to time.
