We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristy Mickelsen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kristy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
What a great Question! The most meaningful project I have worked on is the project I am working on right now, which is A charity fundraiser event for suicide prevention and awareness.
I have reached a point in my career where I concentrate on charity work and giving back to a world that has given so much to me.
The suicide prevention and awareness charity fundraiser with live music, guest speakers, and other performances will be held July 12, 2025 in Woodbridge New Jersey from 6pm to 11pm at The Elks Lodge #2116
Suicide prevention and awareness is really important to me as I have lost several people in my life by suicide.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well my name is Kristy Mickelsen. I am a wife to a wonderful husband and the mother of two wonderful young adult autistic children. I am also a romance book author, a podcast host and an advocate for causes such as cancer, autism and lupus awareness as well as suicide prevention.
I got my start with this career about six years ago, when my son caught me writing in a journal and challenged me to try writing professionally. So I wrote a short story called Nine Months To Autism and put it up for sale and to my surprise it sold! After that I began to fall in love with the writing industry and learned as much as I could about the business and fell in love with challenge of it all! Since then I have written books, started hosting a Podcast called W.W.A.A. Which is available on most podcast platforms, and have opened my own business called Random Rose Author Services and talent promotions.
It has been such an incredible journey and i look forward to seeing where my career journey takes me next.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the connections I have made with so many wonderful people through my work.
My books have characters that are realistic and relatable with situations that people can truly relate to. I also use my podcast to give other people a platform to tell their stories and share their experiences with situations that have been life changing or rewarding.
Through my books podcasts and charity work i have had the opportunity and pleasure to meet some wonderful new friends and even some new business connections.
It is very rewarding to know that my stories and my podcasts help people worldwide to know they are not alone and that someone in this world understands them and what they have been through and that there is hope for a better tomorrow.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Well my journey started from a challenge from my son. However now what drives me to keep going is knowing that my work is helping others find a voice while I continue to find my own. In my life i have experienced bullying, heartbreak, trauma, and some very hard losses of loved ones. I use to keep my feelings about these experiences to myself out of fear of looking silly and weak. But I have found that writing and podcasts and charity work give me the strength and courage to let all those bottled up emotions out, and in doing so I am helping others do the same thing.
