We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristopher Pace a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kristopher thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
As with any venture in life, especially that of an entrepreneur, the path is never a straight line but goal remains the same. I would say I’m a serial entrepreneur, but I always find a way to connect my endeavors so that they balance each other out and eventually come full circle. My businesses are all based around the concept of balance, hence the name, The Balance Studio Productions.
When I was serving in the United States Air Force, I suffered a traumatic brain injury and I lost my balance including having to learn to walk again. As I worked to get that balance back, I learned so much about how you must have balance in all aspects of your life, not just the physical.
Fast forward a few years and after traveling the globe teaching yoga, acro balance, and handstands I began to be referred to as “World-Renowned” as an instructor. I was truly humbled. This gave me the confidence and credibility I needed to realize my dream of opening my own yoga studio with the intention to help people to improve their lives just as I had done for myself.
I named my studio “The Balance Studio” with a location in Orlando, FL. My goal was to solve a problem no one else was solving, offering all aspects of balance training to help change people’s lives for the better. As a personal trainer, yoga instructor, and life coach (to name a few), I was able to offer an all-inclusive safe space for training in physical balance, emotional balance, life balance, and more. Our students loved it!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Because of my injury in the military, I was facing neck surgery, which I didn’t want to do especially because I was in my early 30s at the time and I enjoyed being physical. They told me the only way to put it off was to increase my core strength and maintain spinal mobility. So, I went home, and I Googled those terms. You know what popped up? Yoga. I said, for the next 60 days I’m going to go to yoga every day. During those 60 days, I fell in love with it and then I did it every day for years until I decided to start teaching. If it wasn’t for my injury, I wouldn’t have ended up with the opportunity to teach internationally.
Everything pretty much fell into place after that. I started teaching yoga classes, which led me to teach workshops and travel. When I was done traveling, I knew my next step was to establish my own yoga teacher training school, aptly named “Balance Yoga Teacher Training, LLC.” I had so much unique knowledge that I wanted to share and I wanted others to be able to teach the way I knew they’d benefit others best.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to continuously expand on my concept of balance. Teacher training led me to become a podcast host for Conversations with Kris where I get to reach an even wider audience. It also led me to get back to traveling for workshops, become a motivational speaker, delve deeper into life coaching, and more. As I’ve expanded to reach more people it’s enabled me to bring them back to my base, my passion, my core, which is balance.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
In physical terms, it sounds funny, but I’m a guy that does yoga. That always helps. But in all seriousness, most men who promote and teach yoga are 5′ 5″ or less. In terms of the physical side of the practice, it gives them an advantage. I’m 6′ 1″ and 225 lbs. Not only do I move well like the smaller guys, but I’m relatable to most men, bigger guys, who think that they can’t do yoga. I’m here to tell you that everyone can benefit!
I also bring a well-balanced product to everyone I come in contact with because of the life experiences that I’ve had. I served in the military, got my Master’s degree, worked in corporate America, traveled the globe, have been taught by some of the greatest teachers in the world, learned even more through self-study, and am a Dad to 3 amazing boys. When I sit down and talk to people or give motivational speeches, I’m pulling from my life experiences and the things that I’ve observed. What makes me different is that I don’t coach people physically. I change the way they think because that’s the only way to get them to change physically and bring balance to other aspects of their life. I offer them the opportunity to find peace in life.

Any advice for managing a team?
Train your team, coach your team, be involved with your team, and care about them as human beings. I trained my own staff, which I truly believe is the only way to build a successful business. Plus, it creates opportunities to help others while also helping myself to be more efficiency and effective. I have big ideas and in order for those ideas to come to fruition I knew I needed people that knew the field, were just as passionate as I am, and were willing to learn and grow with me.
I enjoy creating a win-win situation for everybody that I encounter by making sure I am always real but also positive. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it because it allows me to continually grow and work on myself, too.
