We recently connected with Kristopher Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Kristopher, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Everyone has a story. Becoming what some may call a successful businessman was not originally where I thought my story would lead. Growing up in Tallahassee, Florida to a family of public servants, I was always intrigued by service in the community. My parents had me involved in feeding the homeless with my church at 10 years old. Feeding the homeless and giving back to the community has always been near and dear to me. I was awarded the Bob Graham award for civic excellence for committing to over 500 hours of community service in middle school. So, my mission has always been to help my community and to act as a servant leader. Another large part of my story was when I transferred my sophomore year of high school from a more affluent area to an underserved and marginalized community. Seeing the disparities in education, food, and even the simple walk to school made me realize that positive changes are definitely currently available to be made in society. I started to shift my focus on not just the homeless population but to society in general. Originally, I thought that meant becoming a city manager or a senator, but quickly realized the complexities of politics. So, after college, I quickly jumped into business and realized that in order to make a positive impact, I needed capital. Yes, I love the excited challenges that business brings within itself the late nights and early mornings. But, what I love most is the positive impact I am currently making and will continue to make along my business journey. I am the co-founder and executive director of GRO (Gaining Resources for Outreach). A nonprofit which strives to cultivate a team of servant leaders who work with underserved and marginalized communities to promote and advance political capital, community welfare, and financial literacy through outreach endeavors. I am also the co-founder of ClubManny who is committed to donating 51 percent of our profits from web 3.0 NFT to donate to the water conservation community. Lastly, I am also the co-founder of Oyster Boy Conservation, a nonprofit 501-c3 where we use natural water filtration methods to improve water and food quality for our friends in the seas. These are some of the many ways I continue to stand behind my overall mission, which is to serve!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
A young kid from Tallahassee who’s parents always had me involved in sports and other extracurricular activities helped me grow up to become a well-rounded individual. From interning as a senate page under Senator Bill Montford and winning the Bob Graham Award for Civic Excellence. Serving my local community has always been extremely important to me. In sports, I won the state championship with Amos P. Godby as a team Captain, but the same year I was selected to be a part of Youth Leadership Tallahassee because of my devotion to community service and academics. I then matriculated and received over 20 top division one scholarships and ended it up choosing FAU over the likes of USF, Ole Miss, and Michigan State. At FAU, I ended up winning a championship and playing with Lane Kiffin as my football coach. While in college, I started to face a lot of adversity and surgeries. An awakening moment for me was once I received my first concussion from getting hit by a car while walking on school campus.
Through those times of adversity, I started to come to a realization and developed the phrase that “I could do more with my brain than I could ever do with my body”, and decided to go to the school library once a week to read about business. In business, I wear the hat of a real estate developer currently working on around 80M dollars’ worth of real estate projects with my business partner John Lindner all over the United States. . When I’m not working on developments, I help people acquire homes as a licensed mortgage loan officer, travel as an international speaker and executive coach where I teach clients how to start and scale their businesses. I am also an avid investor in Airbnb. with my business partner out of Texas with NJN Enterprises LLC. We have acquired a nice portfolio of Airbnbs and pride ourselves on helping others become Superhost! Recently, I wrote a book to help those I can’t reach physically invest in real estate and become Airbnb Superhost as well!
I am most proud that I help people’s ideas become a reality.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The largest pivot of my life happen when I quit my corporate job because I had got selected to become commission as an officer in the U.S Marine Corps. The pivot was not becoming selected because up to the point of selection, I had been focusing on that opportunity for 2 years. The pivot came when I received a call at my bank the week before my shipment that I would not be leaving for Officer Candidate. Feeling helpless and confused without a job, this closed door provided me with the shift I needed to focus full time as an entrepreneur.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met my first business partner on the first day of college. She was a very pretty woman, and she even decided to marry me! We laugh about it today, but I met my second ever business partner in the parking lot of my corporate job. It was a crazy day at the office and he asked me what would I like to do outside of my current job? We have been hitting it hard since he received news that I wasn’t going to the military and have not stopped!
