We were lucky to catch up with Kristojay Paul recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kristojay, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?

In 2016 I was called by God to ‘launch out into the deep’. Up until that time I had been using my gift of singing in comfortable spaces – church, church events, weddings, funerals etc. It was then I began to understand the concept of ‘purpose’. I began to understand that my gifts were given to me to perform purpose and that this must be fulfilled before I die. It was not for my benefit only but mostly to uplift believers and build the Kingdom of God. That year I wrote down my vision and purpose – to use my gifts of singing and speaking to ‘quicken’ the hearts of believers in these last days.

As a Pastor’s wife, it was the first time I understood that I had my own purpose to fulfill and that it was not just to help my husband fulfill his! The burning in my belly to be and do more, kindled, and has only grown since. I started to seek ways in which my purpose should be fulfilled – beginning with writing devotions on Facebook, branching out to other social platforms. God pulled me out of my comfort zone and I recorded videos with messages of empowerment and transformation.

In 2017 I released my first song ‘Let The Nations Praise You, Oh God’. I have since released seven songs in total, won six international and two local Awards with my husband Rev. Roger Paul as my Songwriter and main composer. We worked even closer as a team. I shared stages locally and abroad with top international artistes like Donnie McClurkin and William McDowell.

It was out of these experiences I began to seek how to operate an online business to teach everything I knew and what God was prodding me to do. “How am I supposed to do this?” became the burning question. I was eager to learn. I connected with Business and Online Ministry coaches and joined Inner Circles at different points in time. I was hungry!! I consumed so much on building online businesses, taught myself how to build websites, do graphic designing and much more.

In 2020 I built and released my own website – www.kristojaypaul.com and also released my first ebook. Everything began to be built out from there. I did so much during COVID. I went from wondering what would be my content, to now having so much content! My business Higher Plain came to be. Through this, I had the privilege and blessing of speaking at international women’s conferences.

In April 2022, two months after the release of my song ‘Find Myself In You’, I went on a quest to fully understand its deep meaning. I began my meditation journey while in COVID isolation. For at least two years I was not even much inclined to singing. God had me in a place of listening and learning. Learning about Him and learning how to listen to His Holy Spirit. I was in an unfamiliar yet extremely exciting place.

Through meditation, God gave me business ideas. Out of the song came a book I co-wrote with my husband ‘Find Myself In You – 30 Days of Meditation in Christ Jesus’ – a devotional and meditation journal based on Romans 8. From that book came a free e-book, meditation wallpapers, meditation cards and an online course for Christian women recently renamed ‘Become God’s Best Version of YOU’ – Meditate with the Holy Spirit to grow deeper and soar higher in Christ. The feedback has been great and encouraging so far.

I also created another online course ‘Empower Your Speech’ – a package of everything learned behind the microphone as a singer, speaker, Toastmaster, Radio Announcer of 25 years and certified in Voice and Speech. The reviews have also been great for this and and I am so grateful.

There are more exciting things ahead for 2025, as I will be opening up Membership and Group Coaching in my business, teaching Christian women under the brand ‘Transformed To Speak’. The vision – Empowering Christian women to unleash their voice, overcome fear, and walk confidently in their God-given purpose by discovering their identity in Christ, aligning with the Holy Spirit, and mastering the art of impactful speech. I also will be releasing another book and there will definitely be a song. It is time.

There are even greater things ahead for Higher Plain. This is a global business! I look forward to what is in store and what God will do in and through it.

Higher Plain is all about transformation and empowerment. Transformation – becoming aligned with who you were created to be and being empowered to live out that transformation.

My songs inspire people to be their best, be and do all God created them to be and do.

Through my books, online courses and soon membership and group coaching, Christian women find their identity through meditation with God, to thereby become better wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, co-workers, leaders, as this impacts, affects and effects every aspect of their lives. In so becoming, they will learn how to speak boldly with Him.

The membership and coaching will help them go deeper, as I offer practical tools for Biblical application. The drive behind this is so many women are in church for decades, not even KNOWING God has so much more for THEM. Yes, we read and yes we study, but how is it lived out practically every hour of every day with God, to enhance every aspect of our lives? The only way to know what this looks like for us individually and personally, the blueprint for our own lives, is to ask and listen. This is not taught or taught enough in churches and so many are missing out on purpose, great blessings and elevation as a result.

What sets me apart is that I not only teach this, but I also teach how to use meditation to overcome fear and speak with confidence. There are women with powerful messages for the world who are afraid to express them because they simply do not know how. I teach the art of speech to help them – enunciation, diction, pronunciation, how to write a speech, how to communicate and present. They can then go out to ministry or marketplace and speak boldly so others can be empowered, industries engaged and changes occur for the betterment of the world. They become better women and improve on their personal and business relations. They fulfill purpose.

I believe in integrity. I believe in doing things well and am always in a mode of learning. There is still so much to learn. Whatever I learn, I pour into others once they are willing to receive it. They get it all. I have told my students I want them to be better than me and am believing they will be. I love to see people winning! My adrenaline pumps for this.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn was that building an online business is easy.

I had watched many videos and listened to a number of coaches talking about making so much money in a short period with online business – $100k in 90 days and the stories go on. This is a great catch phrase. I would have paid money and jumped in with this thought only on the back-end to learn the real story of struggle and hardship to eventually get to that point.

What too many do not say upfront, is the amount of work needed behind this.

I have learned that it takes time to build a business online. There is so much content for people to sift through. Business owners have to build credibility through the crowd, stand out with their message speaking directly to their avatar and be consistent. This takes time, years even, and if doing it yourself the learning curve is real.

Additionally, there are international platforms that are not available for monetisation for many of our countries here in the Caribbean. Some of these I would have learned after the fact. I moved on after lost time and finances, but the lessons learned made me better for the next project.

I am yet to make my first US$100k in 90 days, but through resilience, perseverance and belief in God and purpose, I know even bigger will come. Nothing will be wasted.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

What has helped me build my reputation was first of all having the right mindset. Without knowing who I am and my purpose, it would have been more difficult. Imagine trying to reach people with inconsistent messaging. Nothing is wrong with trial and error and taking risks to figure it out, but they would at least be on the same spectrum.

Once I figured out the direction, I began to build messages around it. Constantly learning was critical to growth.

Getting out of my comfort zone to put messages from God out there was also crucial. It was not about me but about the people I have been called to serve. That has kept me going and that is what I am known for even more now.

Networking and being featured at events and on podcasts were also very necessary. It was important to interact with and get to know my target market, know what makes them tick and how I may serve them and solve their problems.
