Kristine , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Earning a full-time living as a makeup artist in Los Angeles is possible, but it can be competitive and challenging. To succeed, Here is my how to! I had to build Skills, I invested in professional makeup training and continuously improved my skills. Staying updated with current trends is crucial. your portfolio is very important. Create a strong portfolio showcasing your work. Collaborate with models and photographers for quality photos. Networking is key! Attend industry events, connect with other makeup artists, and build relationships with potential clients. Utilize platforms like Instagram and Tik Tok, showcase your work and gain a following this is a great platform for new clients. Freelance and Contract Work was important when I started. I would take most freelance or contract gigs to gain experience and build a reputation. I love to assist experienced Artists! Assisting established makeup artists can provide valuable experience and connections. Marketing yourself in a certain style will help develop a strategy to reach potential clients and promote your services. Set competitive pricing, yet sustainable rates for your services. Learn the basics of running a business, including finances, contracts, and taxes. Lastly always stay persistent! The makeup industry can be tough, so stay persistent and resilient in pursuing your career goals. It may take time to establish yourself, but with dedication and talent, you can make a full-time living as a makeup artist!

Kristine , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always had a love of art and creativity. I started my journey into makeup on the retail end. I started working for luxury brands then later was promoted to Dior’s resident artist in Los Angeles. While working for Dior I started retaining more personal clients and actors, going to their houses getting them ready for a special events. Eventually started working with a few photographers around the Los Angeles area, this also lead to working on photoshoots, ecom ,commercial,TV and film. I made a big decision to leave Dior and start my own business focusing on working on photoshoots ,headshots, PR, and editorials. I’ve had a successful career building relationships with photographers and actors I love bringing to life my clients vision. I especially love being collaborative in a photo shoot and having fun!!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I get a blank canvas everyday and I get to create what more could I ask for?! Whether I’m working with a seasoned actress /model / professional ,or someone just coming into the industry, I love having fun and creating their vision. This is super rewarding once you get the image and then see them in film, TV ,movies, and commercials. weather its for content, for their social media or PR! It’s all fun having a creative job!!

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
