We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristine Harris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kristine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I have been an AFAA Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor for over 18 years and got certified as a Comprehensive Pilates Practitioner in 2020. I started my own business, Kore Fitness Studio a year ago and I feel like it was the right time for me. I have been working in a physical therapy clinic as a Personal Trainer and Pilates Instructor and feel that the experience that I gained was invaluable. I was able to develop my strength for meeting people where they are at in their journey to wellness through exercise. I had the opportunity to create a studio that uniquely fits the needs of my clients and my business has been growing steadily this past year. I feel like it was the right place and time for me and I wouldn’t change anything.

Kristine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been in the fitness industry for over 18 years. I started as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor in a small gym and really found my passion for helping others and had a desire to learn more about rehabilitative exercise. I gained that experience when I started working in a physical therapy clinic as a trainer and technician. I learned a lot about rehabilitative exercise and had the opportunity to train as a rehabilitative Pilates Instructor with Polestar. I worked with clients and patients in the physical therapy clinic for the next few years and further developed my experience. I opened Kore Fitness Studio in November 2023 as a unique and personalized environment where people are able to work out in an environment that is catered to each client’s individual needs.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
As a small business owner in a competitive market, word of mouth has been the best way to source new clients. The best referrals come from clients who have experienced positive changes in their health and want to help others to benefit as well. I offer a free session to clients for each new referral as an incentive to generate referrals.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As many others experienced during COVID I lost most of my clients. It was a very difficult time for many. I changed my business model to incorporate virtual training options and a virtual video library to workouts on my website for a monthly subscription. It was a way to keep my business going to meet the needs of my clients at that particular time and it’s still something I offer today.
