We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristina Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristina below.
Hi Kristina, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Founded in 2023, my company is dedicated to creating a vibrant and inclusive space for female divers through innovative and thoughtfully designed scuba dive logbooks. After I became a certified diver, I was on a mission to find the perfect logbook, one that matched my personality. After I exhausted the local dive shops and the internet, it was clear that this was probably a common issue for women, like me. Recognizing a gap in the market for logbooks that embrace femininity and cater specifically to women divers, I set out to address this challenge with passion and creativity. My mission is to inspire and empower women around the globe, making it clear that scuba diving is a welcoming adventure for everyone.
With over 40 unique cover designs tailored to capture the spirit and individuality of female divers, I provide options that resonate with our community, enhancing their diving experience. Every logbook is crafted with care and is available in both metric and imperial measurements, ensuring accessibility for divers worldwide. My commitment extends beyond just creating quality products; I aim to foster a sense of belonging and encouragement for women in the diving community, challenging the stereotype that diving is solely a masculine pursuit. By supporting and empowering female divers, I aspire to cultivate a new wave of inspiration and confidence in the underwater world.
Kristina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Colorado native who took a leap of faith to pursue a travel position as a respiratory therapist in sunny Florida. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the beautiful landscapes and the inviting waters of this vibrant state. My newfound passion for the ocean and the gulf led me to earn my scuba certification, and during my journey, I encountered a significant gap in the market for dive logbooks tailored specifically for women. This challenge sparked my entrepreneurial spirit and reminded me of the invaluable lessons I learned from my parents, who successfully started and ran their own businesses.
With a desire to empower and support female divers, I began designing unique dive logbooks that reflect a more feminine touch, giving women the tools they need to document their underwater adventures. This journey inspired me to expand my offerings, leading to the launch of my Etsy shop. There, I proudly offer not only my dive logbooks, which ship worldwide, but also a curated collection of ocean and scuba-themed items including shirts, bags, and wall art aimed at celebrating and promoting the love of the sea among women.
Each of my creations is a labor of love, crafted to inspire and connect with fellow ocean enthusiasts.
How did you build your audience on social media?
With social media being so big, I really leaned in on finding ambassadors to help me market. In my pursuit of brand ambassadors, I focused on social media platforms, particularly seeking out women who share extensive scuba-related content and boast a significant following. This strategy was instrumental in amplifying my visibility. I discovered so many incredible women who are passionate about supporting small businesses.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The most effective source of new clients for me has been my unique approach of using snail mail to connect with dive shops across the country. I found that handwritten letters garnered far more responses than emails or social media outreach. It was a labor-intensive process, as I personally crafted around 500 letters, and I think the personal touch really resonated. I even had the mailman curious about the consistent flow of envelopes I was sending out! This approach not only helped me stand out but also allowed me to build genuine connections with potential clients. So not only do I sell my books on Etsy, but you can also find my books throughout the country in different dive shops.
