We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristina Roberts. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristina below.
Kristina, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
This is a tough question. I love being a creative spirit but I often wish that I had kept writing as a hobby. I have never had a desire to be a public figure or to be famous so that has been the toughest part for me. I don’t want others concerned about my life and I am an extremely private person. I don’t think that I would have been good at “a regular job,”: though. That means working a nine-to-five and being told when I have to be there and when I have to leave, when I can go to lunch, etc. I definitely have a :”boss spirit.” I could envision myself as a successful event planner or even a lawyer with a private practice.
At this point in my life, I definitely wish that I had pursued another career. In many ways, I feel like I have wasted 27 years of my life. All the drama, animosity, people trying to “take me down” has harmed my desire to even continue to write or do anything else involving entertainment. I am seriously considering officially retiring from the industry. It is sad because I know that I have a unique talent and my dozens of awards prove that but… my heart is no longer in it. I guess time will tell what happens. Hopefully, I will regain my passion and desire to create characters and unusual stories, I honestly have no clue how things will develop. Great topic and it has given me the push that I need to make some lifechanging decisions.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am most known as a New York Times Bestselling Author of more than three dozen titles. I also ran five imprints at Simon and Schuster and published more than 700 books by more than 120 other authors. I am an Executive Producer, Screenwriter and Award-winning film director.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The freedom to create and use my imagination to make a PIE: persuade, inform, and entertain others. Being able to change the lives and opinions of others is a blessing and I will continue to try to make a difference as long as I can.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to lean that while the world is full of amazing and wonderful people, there is a small group of people that are extremely selfish, manipulative, and detrimental. I grew up believing that everyone was honest and forthcoming but throughout the years, I had come across a lot of people whose sole purpose appears to be destroying others. That is as it relates to business and personal affairs. So now I don’t attach myself to anyone long-term. I will help them out once or twice if I am so moved but I never put anyone in the position to have a negative impact on my life. I work very hard to keep my life peaceful and I intend to keep it that way. If your gut tells you that something is wrong, believe it.
