We recently connected with Kristina Perillo and have shared our conversation below.
Kristina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I decided to open a salt spa because it was the only thing that helped my son with his asthma flair ups. There were very few places that offered salt/halo therapy near me. I started doing a bunch of research and discovered not many people knew about salt therapy. I knew once I got people in the door I would have them hooked after one treatment. The service sells itself and the added spa like setting makes you feel pampered and special. I wanted people to not only feel great (healthy) when they walked out but also feel like they are walking out of a luxurious experience. I have this OCD for when I do things it has to be the ABSOLUTE GREATEST. I picture what I would want as a consumer, and to me, every detail matters.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Kristina Perillo, I’m married to a wonderful man that lets me dream and lets me fly with my dreams. He is so supportive no matter how crazy my ideas are. I have 3 kids 2 boys and a girl. My son joe is 9, my daughter Elianna is 7 and my baby Enzo is 4.
I grew up in a big family and we were raised to think entrepreneurial. I’ve been in the beauty/wellness business for over 25 years.
I was raised to believe “Food is Medicine” the older I got the more it made sense to me. So I started to deep dive in more of an alternative approach to health and wellness and that’s how I discovered salt therapy. Salt therapy has so many benefits, it helps with asthma, skin conditions, inflammation, allergies, COPD, sinusitis, skin issues, and the list goes on and on. When I opened Salt Spa of St Clair shores I wanted it to be more of a spa experience. The services I offer at my spa are Salt Therapy, IV therapy, infrared sauna, and massage therapy. I am thinking of expanding and adding more services soon.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think social media is a huge platform on building a business nowadays. Unfortunately, I’m not very good at social media and I’m blessed to have people that help me in that aspect of business. Another way I truly believe in building a bigger clientele is by word of mouth (very old school I know). I believe if you give everyone who walks into your door the best experience and something to talk about, business will multiply. Everyone has friends and family and everyone LOVES to share a good experience!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advice on building a team and keeping morale strong is stay positive. Talk to people like you want to be talked to. I always let my team be creative. I let them know the businesses expectations and let them lead. Micro management is not really my style, no one I know likes to be told what to do. It allows the team to be original and come up with ideas to help grow the business. I also believe in team building, doing outings as a group, making reels together, and really getting to know one another “there is no I in Team”
