Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristina Nguyen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kristina , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the toughest parts of scaling a business is maintaining quality as you grow. How have you managed to maintain quality? Any stories or advice?
I want to give the best service I possibly can for my clients. When my clients sit on my chair, I want to devote all my time and attention to them. Most importantly, I want them to walk out feeling relaxed, happy, and just feeling good about themselves!
Kristina , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those of you who haven’t met me yet, what’s up! I’m Kristina. I’m 31 and I like to think that I’m a simple and laid back person. Who loves matcha, plants, and enjoys nature!
I moved to Denver from Illinois with my boyfriend. It’s always a big risk and so much uncertainty moving away from everything and everyone you know to a whole new state. It was a bit frightening because I didn’t know anyone in the nail or beauty industry in Denver. I was able to find a couple jobs and met some cool people along the way. I always knew I wanted to do something in the beauty industry. I wanted to create a safe space for people to look and feel good about themselves. So, I did it. I took a leap and opened up my nail studio in June of 2021!
The services I specialize in are Gel-X and Gel manicure. If you’re unfamiliar with Gel-X, it’s a soft gel extension that covers your whole nail. It comes in a variety of lengths and shapes. Gel polish is used for color. After curing under the LED light, the nails are all dried and ready to go. It’s definitely a great option if you’re looking to add length, and help your natural nails grow. I recommend Gel-X over acrylic because it’s a thinner and healthier alternative. My work is more of a simple, casual look. I like to take my time and not rush things to make sure my work is done thoroughly.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I feel like It’s simple. Treat people with kindness. With a genuine heart, show and make them feel that you care, and it will show. Word of mouth works wonders! When the client is happy, they will refer friends and family to you. I also make sure I put out consistent work. Personally, I love to see before and after pictures, and I feel that people enjoy seeing them as well. How the nails look leaving the studio is important. But, the retention of the nails when they come back is equally as important. My clients are pretty much a free walking advertisement if you think about it, haha. I can’t let them walk around with janky looking nails. I would not feel good about that at all.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Instagram! Honestly, I have such a love and hate relationship with social media. Social media can get overwhelming at times. But, it has helped my business so much. Did I ever think I would learn how to make reels and edit pictures? HECK NO! But, I’m able to showcase my work and engage with people.
