We were lucky to catch up with Kristina Lopez Adduci recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kristina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of sales or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
House of Puff is committed to breaking down the stigmas surrounding cannabis and elevating it to the forefront of mainstream culture. We achieve this goal by harnessing the transformative power of art, while also championing the advancement of social justice for all. Our unique approach involves partnering with artists, nonprofits, and like-minded cannabis companies—collaborating with them to create bold, innovative cannabis accessories. These products not only challenge preconceptions about cannabis but also generate long-term, passive income for the artists, provide vital financial support for aligned nonprofits, and offer exclusive, highly sought-after items for cannabis businesses. Through our collaborative efforts, we strive to inspire a cultural shift towards greater acceptance and appreciation of cannabis in all its forms. We’ve worked with artists Paula Flores, Chris Wilson, and most recently Sophia Wallace.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I first tried cannabis in my late 20s to help with my anxiety, and honestly, it was a game changer. It’s like this plant has some kind of magic; it became my go-to, not just for anxiety but for pretty much everything. At that time, I ran an art magazine, and realized so I leveraged my art-world relationships and content marketing expertise, and created House of Puff. House of Puff is on a mission to change the way we think about cannabis consumption. We use the power of art to make it feel chic and effortless. By collaborating with women and BIPOC artists, we infuse our products with a high-culture aesthetic. We also create inclusive educational content that focuses on cannabis, art, and social justice. As a women-owned and Latina-led company, we’re committed to promoting inclusivity and breaking down the stigmas surrounding cannabis.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
We embarked on our journey amidst the pandemic, a time when the retail landscape was shifting dramatically. Stores that showcased House of Puff were closing their doors, compelling us to innovate and adapt. Our resilience led us to the digital realm, specifically, YouTube.
Initially, our resources were limited. Professional equipment and studios were beyond our reach, but we were undeterred. Armed with our smartphones and a vision, we ventured into content creation, focusing on authenticity and value over high-end production.
Our content, raw yet resonant, struck a chord. We didn’t just build a channel; we cultivated a community. Today, we boast a reach of over 3 million on YouTube alone, carving out a niche as one of the few cannabis brands effectively engaging the stylish, discerning consumer.
Our digital footprint didn’t just expand; it exploded. With a cumulative digital reach of 15 million. This digital pivot hasn’t just been about survival; it’s been a journey of unprecedented growth, making it our most potent strategy in expanding our customer base to date.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I first crossed paths with Holly at Art Basel down in Miami. We were both panelists in a discussion about feminism and art. It didn’t take long to realize we were on the same wavelength. Our connection was instant, and from that moment, collaboration was inevitable.
We teamed up on a few projects and in the midst of all this, we discovered a shared secret – our love for cannabis.
That’s how House of Puff was born. It wasn’t just about creating a brand; it was about building something that stemmed from our shared passions. Two creatives, a shared secret love for cannabis, and a whole lot of synergy – that’s the magic behind House of Puff.
