We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristina Corona a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kristina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I had no idea that what I was naturally doing everyday from a young child was songwriting. I have always had a natural attachment to melody and word play. In college I took a composition course which really shook me and my understanding of what I was already doing, the course helped me understand the basics and since then it’s been all I really love to do.
Kristina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well I am singer songwriter, in 2019 I dropped my first single and began my pursuit into the music industry. I believe what sets me apart from others is the passion I have to be myself/original. I always wanted to create a sound that I would listen to and was proud of and not hyper focused on what’s popular or trendy to get attention. I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to get signed onto a reputable label such as the orchard in fact when I would speak about my desire to be signed people would say I was just starting and it would take years before I was noticed, so to have the blessing to be here now is incredible and my work ethic is really to show for it. I will continue to do whatever it takes to see my visions come to fruition.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Getting signed during a pandemic was a blessing and a challenge. Having resources but not able to utilize them because travel was restricted and funding was paused due to the shut down made it at times discouraging. Nevertheless I took the time to learn the business and reevaluate my approach to writing and overall learn patience with the industry.
How did you build your audience on social media?
To be honest I am still building my presence, at the moment my team and I are creating a strategy with marketing to coincide with music drops. From creating campaigns to marketing with other brands to get seen on a larger platform. My advice would be to definitely invest in yourself. It takes money to make money. Running campaigns on IG and Facebook is a great place to start
