We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristin Thompson and Heather Gardner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristin and Heather, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Kristin invited heather to work at her salon on S. Congress; the salon didn’t have a name and they brainstormed for a long time to come up with the wild hare. Heather was getting a degree in Environmental Science and Policy from St. Edwards University when we had to find a new location for our salon. Kristin randomly suggested that we redesign the branding to create an eco-conscious space. And thats how it started. We wanted to create a beautiful friendly environment for clients and staff, focusing on education and client experience. We are the ying and the yang, each of us have our own strengths to bring to the table.
We wanted to really focus on the entire mission and brand on sustainability. There is a huge space for sustainability in the beauty industry. There is so much waste that can be salvaged. By partnering with Green Circle Salons we can recycle the leftover color into potable water, repurpose the foils used during services in bikes for kids, and the hair clippings are composted.
The wild hare is excited and proud to be part of the eco-conscious community in Austin.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We are carrying Kevin Murphy and Eleven, both Australian brands and leaders in the eco-conscious and sustainable hair products. The wild hare embodies the Australian ethos. We are inspired by French techniques and Australian products to create beautiful wearable hair. Not only do we repair hair, but we are inventive in our approach to creating new looks for our clients.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth. It is statistically proven that women trust their hairstylist more than their husbands. The two most important people in woman life are her hair stylist and her gynecologist.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Holding ourselves accountable in the same way we hold our team accountable.
