We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristin + Maria Johnson + Claps. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristin + Maria below.
Kristin + Maria, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Maria and Kristin first started in the wellness space with their own respective practices but as the needs of their clients grew, they felt tinges of burnout and were both unconsciously seeking another way to use their skills. Kristin sought out training on a particular functional health test and Maria happened to have a course training practitioners on that test. When they first came together it was as student and teacher but over time they both recognized a synergy that was hard to deny. As Maria’s practice was already focused on women’s hormones – the area Kristin was hoping to move – Maria proposed an arrangement whereby Kristin would help with initial client consultations before handing over final protocols and off-boarding to Maria. This balance worked so well over time that they both realized neither wanted to stop the arrangement and instead wanted to expand things so that their work was fully integrated with the other. With a lot of faith and trust, they restructured into a legal partnership and built their dream program for their ideal client. The result was an unstoppable momentum that has carried them on an incredible journey together for the past 4 years – neither can imagine working without the other and both joke that they have found a second spouse!
Kristin + Maria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As two midlife-aged women who had been woefully let down by the conventional medical establishment, Kristin and Maria were each seeking to unravel their own health issues via non-conventional avenues. Both went back to school to learn and expand their understanding and ultimately discovered that their needs and concerns were shared by literally every midlife woman. It became patently clear that their passion could fill a void but it would take a hard pivot and years of specialty education and mentorship which they both gladly embraced with vigor. Today, they focus on the niche of midlife female as it relates to hormone loss and aging. They are passionate educators on helping women utilize nutrition and lifestyle management alongside hormone restoration in order to preserve their health as they age.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Maria and Kristin would both love to go back to their 20s with the insights they have today as both admit it may have placed them on a course of formal medical training but hopefully without the conventional and allopathic limitations that we continue to work against now.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Personal experience, deep commitment and passion, and continuous curiosity and mentorship.
