We were lucky to catch up with Kristin Lopez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kristin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
What is Love Like Lenny? Well, it started as a stirring in my head and in my heart to make a difference. I hesitated to start this little local project not knowing what would come of it. But then my passion started to rise, the on going rush of heartache and sadness we see on the news began to weigh on me more heavily and I feel the call now more than ever to do my part in making this world a better place.
Here is the real magic…
My Pop Pop, Lenny Ettinger, was the most generous human I have ever known. He is my inspiration. He made sure the people around him knew kindness, laughter, love and generosity even far after his soul left this earth. And it’s my mission to pick up where he left off, continuing his legacy.
I firmly believe that the generosity of kind words and actions is what people need more of. I feel it deep down that if we all reach just a little further, love harder, try better and help others that the precious lives that we share in our short time in this world would make us smile more.
This project exists to encourage others, even perfect strangers. Give kindness to those who need help and to those who don’t. Show love to people we see every day and to the ones we will never see again.
It’s such a simple idea, to help make your community better by breathing positivity in to it-even on the hard days. Life gets bigger than us sometimes but I say let’s make it better by making love a priority.
You know that feeling of getting something for free when you least expect it while at the same time knowing you are unconditionally loved?-not having worked to have either-yep, that’s exactly what I’m trying to achieve for everyone.
Love wins, every time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In the last two years Love Like Lenny has made people feel loved in so many different ways. Hands to Hearts is a community service after school club that empowers children to make projects that are sent into communities to lift up others. From thank you cards to first responders and military to “drive safe” keychains for truck drivers and a lot of other things in between.
The heArt Gallery gives individuals the opportunity to create a piece of art to leave in the gallery for someone else who may need love in their life, or take a piece of art from the gallery if you need extra love in your life.
We have had a booth at PrideFest and volunteered at Rainbow Prom to support the LGBTQ community.
We regularly do random acts of kindness and deliveries to others.
We also keep positive messaging on Facebook and Instagram.
Have you ever had to pivot?
At first, Love Like Lenny was going to be more of a blog. I quickly realized that people don’t want to read about good being done in this world, they want to see good being done, they want to experience kindness, they want tangible and hands on ways to help others, so that’s what we did. We made the change to be a story that can be lived.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission we are on is to make people feel seen and feel loved. It’s very simple actually. We never ask for anything, we are just out there being kind.
