We were lucky to catch up with Kristin Kong recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
Sustainability in design, materials, and furnishings is growing in popularity as the end consumers education of wellness increases. Clients are craving healthier homes and it is as much about function as it is about materials and where items for the home are made.
Interiors are more about personal expressions and blending of styles; mixing high and low. We are seeing more merging of different approaches as opposed to one certain trend in design which leads to a highly unique home and one that is decidedly individual.
Color palettes inspired from natural spaces. We are embracing spaces that are bringing the outdoors in. Design that creates an interior room that feels connected to the outdoors through paint, and colors in furniture, and accessories. Clients are craving a greater connection to nature as many work environments have transitioned to home office spaces and nature is tied to wellness, relaxation, and a reduction in stress.
Kristin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Starting off in a large commercial firm I was fortunate to build relationships that migrated with me when I formed my own company. Being active within industry organizations such as ASID of which I have served multiple roles including President has also assisting in building K Kong Design’s reputation within the market. Publicized work though, has been a driving force in building a presence for clients.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Our best source for new clients has always been client referrals but we also rely on referrals from professionals in the industry such as architects, builders, landscape architects, and our vendors and peers. A repeat client or referral from an industry peer is always the highest compliment and we love repeat client business as well.
