We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristin Karg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristin below.
Kristin, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I had wanted to get my eyebrows microbladed for years. When I finally took the plunge and got to the appointment, I fell in love with the process. Then when I sat up and looked in the mirror I fell in love with the way a great set of eyebrows made me feel. It completely changed my confidence especially when I wasn’t wearing any makeup. When I left that appointment, I had already made up my mind that I needed to be a microblading artist. I needed to give others that same feeling I had when I looked at my microbladed brows for the first time. I began researching online about the procedure, the set up I would need, the training and certificates required and most importantly that I could run my business from my home. I took the risk and invested the money and time to set up The Browtique by Kristin in the lower level of my home despite already having an established career as a home health physical therapy assistant. I haven’t looked back since.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Before completing Microblading training I had already created my microblading studio in the lower level of my home. I had my first paying customer in December of 2021 and have completed over 200 sets of brows since. I am known for my natural looking microblading style that is completely tailored to each individual who walks through my door. If you scroll through my before and after pictures, you will notice that no 2 sets of brows are the same. I do most of my advertising through sponsorships and donations to local groups and businesses such as booster clubs, youth sports, churches, fundraisers, etc. I am most proud of the fact that about 80% of my business comes from referrals from past customers.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients are the referrals I receive from past clients. I have a referral program where I offer $25 off a yearly touch up for every referral I get from my customers. I love being able to give them that discount for spreading the word about my small business!
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with my clients by keeping open communication with them. I start by sending a text before every clients very first appointment to introduce myself to them and give instructions to make it easier to find my location. This puts my phone number in their phone, which they usually save. I then send them before and after pictures following their appointment for comparison and for them to share with their family and friends. This then usually opens up a small conversation with a personal touch. To keep my clients coming back I send out yearly touch up reminders every month four clients from the previous year to get them thinking about booking again. I live in a small town, so I run into a lot of my brow beauties and school and community events. I just love seeing all the beautiful brows around town.
