Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristin Groome. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kristin, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have been making charcuterie for friends and family for years, but never to this fancy extent. In 2020 I noticed it start to become a trend. I wasn’t financially stable enough to even think about starting it, but it got my attention. July 2021 I debuted my business. The name Art Fooderie comes from my sister, Taylar. She came up with it because it’s food art, and rhymes with “charcuterie.” The business name gets complimented all the time. It’s a gem and something I will cherish forever.
Kristin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
One thing about me is I am going to go above and beyond to make your entire experience with me seamless. What sets me apart is not only am I creating you beautifully curated food art, I’m creating a relationship and gaining a friend all together. All of my clients are my friends and are so supportive. I never saw myself as a business owner, but when I realized there wasn’t anyone in my area offering something I can offer, I jumped in the opportunity. I love it and I will never look back.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I would have to say word of mouth. It’s honestly crazy how many if my clients are now my clients, because of word of current clients. I work full time in sales in the mortgage industry, so marketing isn’t on my mind right now. It’s solely me that handled everything, occasionally my Dad will come to town to help. So there are only so many orders I can take in at once. Word of mouth has made my business flourish effortlessly and I am so grateful for everyone. All of my supporters are incredibly amazing.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is something that I have always found beauty in. I think it really speaks volumes about a person. I feel if you are going to be a business owner you need to be able to overcome obstacles quickly. I had an order placed with me for 90 cones. I didn’t know how I was going to display them but I told my bride that it would be pretty, no matter what I had to do. I then had my Dad and his friend Ruben build a 6 foot tall cone stand (pictured here.) The bride had no idea what I was bringing to her wedding. But needless to say, we definitely blew them away. I had to strap this cone stand on top of my SUV and traveled with it to Dallas all the way from Tyler, TX. It was so tough, but it was so worth it.
