Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristin Gravitt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kristin, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Empowering businesses year-round, I’m more than just a CPA. As a certified Tax Coach and Business Finance Strategist, I’m committed to ensuring my clients financial success every step of the way. Unlike traditional firms that focus solely on tax season and provided reactive services, I work proactively throughout the year, partnering with clients to optimize their business finances.
Together, we conduct in-depth reviews of their accounting systems and past tax returns to gain a holistic understanding of their financial landscape. From there, we develop personalized strategies to keep their finances in top shape, ensuring they’re always informed and equipped to make educated financial decisions. Through proactive tax planning, we minimize surprises at year-end and strive to minimize their tax burden.
When a client came to me a few months ago, they were trying to save money by doing everything themselves including juggling their accounting and tax responsibilities. Despite their best efforts, their DIY approach had led to costly oversights. In just one comprehensive review session, we uncovered significant missed opportunities and areas for improvement. They had inadvertently omitted depreciating major assets, erroneously classified loan proceeds as income, and were unknowingly operating under a business entity structure that was causing them to overpay in taxes.
We devised a tailored strategy to correct these oversights and optimize their financial position. By amending their tax returns to capture the previously missed depreciation, updating their financial statements to accurately reflect their income, and strategically restructuring their business entity, we unlocked substantial savings and refunds.
The results were transformative. Not only did they receive a substantial refund of $25,000 from previously overpaid taxes, but they also gained newfound confidence in their financial management. With our ongoing partnership, they’re now equipped to navigate their financial journey with clarity and precision, enjoying significant savings year after year. Together, we’ve not only corrected past mistakes but paved the way for a brighter, more prosperous future.

Kristin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Originally from a small town in Virginia, I studied accounting at UNC Charlotte and found my passion for helping others understand their finances. Starting my career in a traditional accounting firm, I soon realized I wanted to do more than just crunch numbers – I wanted to be a guide and support for my clients.
Transitioning into a role as a trusted advisor and consultant, I discovered my true calling: making finance less scary and more understandable for everyone. I’ve had clients who were almost in tears over their finances, but helping them see that it’s not as daunting as they thought lights me up.
My mission is simple: to empower my clients by helping them understand their financial situation and take control of their future. Through clear communication and empathy, I’m proud to be making a positive difference in the lives and businesses of those I serve.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The book that has profoundly influenced my approach to running my business is ‘The 12 Week Year’ by Brian Moran and Michael Lennington. As a business owner, it’s common to find oneself juggling multiple roles within the company, often leading to overwhelm. While setting yearly goals is simple enough, the real challenge lies in turning those aspirations into tangible achievements. This book revolutionized my strategy by advocating for setting ambitious objectives and then breaking them down into manageable chunks, each spanning three months. This approach not only accelerates progress but also fosters a sense of accomplishment at regular intervals, fueling motivation to persist. ‘The 12 Week Year’ has been instrumental in providing me with clarity and focus on the essential tasks driving my business forward.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has undoubtedly been staying true to myself and investing in networking. By authentically presenting myself and my business, I’ve been able to establish genuine connections with potential clients. Networking, whether through industry events, social gatherings, or online platforms, has allowed me to showcase my passion and expertise, building trust and credibility within my network. Through meaningful interactions and cultivating relationships, I’ve consistently expanded my clientele base. Being genuine and proactive in networking has not only brought in new clients but has also led to valuable referrals and contributing significantly to the growth and success of my business.
