We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristin Borns a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristin, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Nothing particularly obscure here. I utilized my name. However, the decision to center Borns was extremely mindful. The integrity with which I operate, the commitment to the work, and how people think of me when they hear my name, are critical.
Solutions, again, clear and to the point. My work is designed to provide solutions to issues clients are tackling. And AZ provides a double-meaning. I can and want to tackle issues for clients from start to finish – A to Z. Also, my unique public policy expertise is deeply embedded in Arizona – AZ.
So Borns Solutions AZ was crafted with meaningful consideration more than a decade ago.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
With more than a decade of experience in government and advocacy, in 2011 I established BSAZ. I am passionate that good public policy must be driven by research and data.
Borns Solutions AZ is a consulting firm with a focus on facilitation, public policy, communication and project management. I believe, in all I do, that smart policy drives wise decision-making and can make inroads for families and communities. This policy lens makes BSAZ unique.
I also believe we as a community are only successful and sustainable when all members have resources, opportunity and a voice. COVID-19 has continued to shatter illusions that we are all in the “same boat.” My work as researcher, writer and facilitator is laser-focused on not only understanding facts and data, but also ensuring we are hearing those who know, who experience whatever the challenge may be. Specifically in my work as a facilitator it is important I am there as a support to those collaboratives in identifying their own solutions.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Recognizing how inter-connected we all are, the critical importance of a network – both professional and personal – is one of the key lessons I’ve learned along the way. Establishing and growing my business has not been easy, but I have been the beneficiary of supportive networks, family and a little luck. There is no such thing as “having it all” and so I look to my support networks to help when the balance is off. That support is key in overcoming any professional challenges. I’ve also discovered along the way the best marketing I can do is delivering the highest-quality product for clients. I truly believe great work begets more work.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I have had the extreme privilege of working in the public policy space with clients who are working to lift up families and communities. As a result, I am truly in awe of those I serve and happily maintain connection even when projects are finished.
I am also very fortunate that with a predominant focus on policies and programs that impact families, I often see overlap in work and collaborations between clients. The fact I get to cross paths frequently with prior clients when engaging with current clients is one of the great gifts of my business.
