Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristin Allen-Farmer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kristin, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was about 8 years old, standing in my living room listening to Enya’s piano piece entitled “Watermark” for the first time. I absolutely loved what I was hearing, decided to turn up the volume and then to my surprise, tears began to roll down my face. The song was so poignantly beautiful and moving, that I decided (with 2 years of piano studies already under my belt) that I wanted to have this same effect on people with my piano music. I wanted to compose pieces that made people feel the same way that I was feeling in that moment. It was an impression that has been forever imprinted on me and I have known ever since that moment that piano, composition and making people feel things were a part of my path.

Kristin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I (Kristin Allen-Farmer aka “Dream Tonic”) am a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer. In addition to performing and recording for my artist project, I write music for film and TV, with my latest tracks being featured in the new Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Adventure hotel in Disney World. I started playing piano at the age of 6, went on the attend a performing arts high school, majored in music in college and received my Master of Arts in Music as well. I went on to perform, teach and tour until I finally learned how to produce music in Ableton live. I have multiple solo piano albums signed to Netflix’s in-house music catalog. I was recently awarded the honor of being triple nominated for the 2023 Hollywood Independent Music Awards in three different categories, and securing a win in the Holiday category. I love to help people’s musical vision come alive, be it learning a new instrument, help writing a song, assistance in laying down parts for a track of theirs or being mentored in the music business. I have a wide breadth of knowledge and helping people is my passion. I am also excited about getting music placed in film and TV. In addition to finding homes on visual medium for my own songs, I also love finding placements for my talented artist friends as well, assisting music supervisors and editors by supplying high quality music in a variety of genres as needed.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goals and mission that drives my creative journey is to make people feel things and be able to tap into emotions that are beyond the abilities of the human language. I think by using music to tap into our emotions and profound human experiences, we can then have compassion for others in a deeper sense. I think music has a way of touching us and making us more human ultimately helping us to feel more connected. The type of music that I write is mostly dance music and there is a spiritual level of connection that happens for people on the dance floor. So one of my biggest goals is to spread world peace through the music I write by people connecting human to human on the dance floor.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
If I had a music business class during high school or college, that would have been SOOOO helpful, although surprisingly – even as a music major – there wasn’t one being offered! I would have loved to have learned about the various revenue streams that creatives can create with their art. I would have also LOVED to have learned to produce music at a much earlier age. I think I was intimidated by the technology but resources like LinkedIn learning made it possible for me to take control of my learning and go at my own pace and interest.
