We recently connected with Kristi Lynn Hustak and have shared our conversation below.
Kristi Lynn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
Dr. Kristi Hustak is a nationally and internationally recognized plastic surgeon at the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery. With a passion for the intersection of art and science, Dr. Hustak
offers personalized surgical plans to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. One of her special
interests is the “complete mommy makeover,” which includes the niche vaginal rejuvenation
along with standard breast and body procedures. She continually strives to develop innovative
surgical and non-surgical options to comprehensively address women’s needs throughout their
lives.
She is also an active clinical faculty member in plastic surgery and trains residents from several
local academic medical centers in the Houston area as they learn both cosmetic and
reconstructive principles. She also serves as a faculty member in the physician healing track at
the University Texas Medical Branch, mentoring medical students in the development of their
professional identity as doctors and healers. She is an Assistant Program Director for the
Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery Aesthetic Fellowship that started in 2016.
For nearly a decade, Dr. Hustak has been consistently named a Top Doctor by Texas Monthly,
Houstonia, H Texas Magazine, and Castle Connolly, among others. In 2023, she received the
prestigious Ted Lockwood Award for Excellence in Breast and Body Surgery from the Aesthetic
Society, making her the first female recipient since the award’s inception.
All of her surgeries are performed at one of her two privately owned surgical centers, under both
local and general anesthesia. She is excited to announce the opening of her new Clear Lake
facility, where she will be able to better serve her patients here on Thursdays for her clinic days
and Fridays for her surgery procedures.
Dr. Hustak’s passion for medicine was sparked at the young age of 14 when she witnessed her
first surgery, solidifying her commitment to the field. In a specialty where only 16% of
practitioners are female, Dr. Hustak has demonstrated remarkable resilience, tenacity, and a
positive attitude in overcoming the challenges inherent in her profession. She encourages her
patients to prioritize themselves and explore elective procedures without guilt or hesitation.
An esteemed speaker both nationally and internationally, Dr. Hustak is highly regarded for her
expertise in breast, body, and genital surgeries. This fall, she had the incredible honor of serving
as a faculty member for the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Brisbane, where
she delivered 14 insightful presentations, sharing her knowledge and innovative techniques with
peers from around the world. Dr. Hustak’s passion for advancing the field of aesthetic surgery
and collaborating with other experts was equally evident this summer when she thoroughly
enjoyed co-chairing the international meeting of Aesthetic Surgeons in the Mediterranean.
These opportunities underscore her dedication to education, mentorship, and pushing the
boundaries of excellence in plastic surgery on a global scale.
“Our own confidence is powerful, and arguably, confidence is one of the sexiest things about our
femininity.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Dr. Hustak’s journey into plastic surgery is as unique as it is inspiring. Born on an Apache Indian Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona, she was introduced to the world of aesthetic surgery through her mother, who worked as a surgical first assistant for a plastic surgeon. At just 14 years old, she witnessed her first surgery, sparking a lifelong passion for the field.
Her academic and professional path reflects her dedication and excellence. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with Distinction in Medical Technology from The Ohio State University in 2004 before attending medical school, where she expanded her horizons with an international surgical mission in Trujillo, Peru. Dr. Hustak then pursued a highly competitive integrated plastic surgery program at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), completing six years of rigorous training.
Dr. Hustak’s career is distinguished by her commitment to education, innovation, and patient care. She is an active clinical faculty member in plastic surgery, mentoring residents and medical students in both technical skills and the development of their professional identities. As Assistant Program Director for the ACPS Aesthetic Fellowship, she trains upcoming surgeons in cutting-edge cosmetic and reconstructive techniques.
Her expertise in female genital rejuvenation and cellulite has made her a sought-after national speaker and innovator. Dr. Hustak has developed several novel techniques, including one that allows labial reduction and vaginal tightening under local anesthesia, eliminating the need for general anesthesia—a groundbreaking approach that minimizes risk and downtime for her patients.
Dr. Hustak is one of the few surgeons in the greater Houston area who specializes in vaginal rejuvenation, integrating it seamlessly into her comprehensive mommy makeover procedures. Her holistic approach addresses both aesthetic and functional aspects of women’s health, empowering her patients to regain confidence and embrace their unique journeys. She also provides care for patients on weight loss journeys, ensuring they feel supported and rejuvenated every step of the way.
Her achievements have earned her widespread recognition, including consistent “Top Doctor” honors from Texas Monthly, Houstonia, H Texas Magazine, and Castle Connolly. In 2023, she became the first female recipient of the prestigious Ted Lockwood Award for Excellence in Breast and Body Surgery from The Aesthetic Society.
Dr. Hustak performs all her surgeries at her privately owned surgical centers in Houston and Clear Lake, offering patients options for both local and general anesthesia. Her newly opened Clear Lake facility allows her to better serve patients in the area with dedicated clinic and surgery days.
On the global stage, Dr. Hustak’s influence continues to grow. In 2024, she presented at The Aesthetic Meeting in Vancouver and co-chaired an international conference for aesthetic surgeons in the Mediterranean. Her role as faculty for the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery further underscores her commitment to advancing the field and sharing knowledge with peers worldwide.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Hustak is a devoted mother of three. She deeply values the trust her patients place in her and is committed to being with them every step of the way, ensuring their goals are achieved in a supportive and empowering environment. Her mission is clear: to help patients feel confident, rejuvenated, and proud of their transformations.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, the most important thing for succeeding in this field is loving what you do. Truly loving it with all your heart. For me, this isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling. I wake up every day genuinely excited to come to work. I feel immense joy knowing that I have the privilege of being part of my patients’ journeys. That in itself is the greatest reward.
My patients are my “why.” They are the reason I pour my heart and soul into every consultation, every surgery, and every follow-up appointment. Being able to empower mothers to reclaim their confidence after childbirth or to help individuals who have overcome weight loss challenges take that next transformative step is indescribably fulfilling. These moments, these stories, these triumphs—they mean everything to me.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I had the chance to choose my career all over again, I wouldn’t hesitate for even a second. I’d choose this life every time. The joy, the connection, and the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life are worth every ounce of effort. To me, this isn’t just about aesthetic transformation; it’s about empowering people to feel like the very best versions of themselves. It’s an honor I cherish deeply.
