We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristi Esquilin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kristi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share an anecdote or story from your schooling/training that you feel illustrates what the overall experience was like?
I did all of my courses except for esthetics online during covid. Which actually worked out for me, because I work better alone and in my home environment.
It was an amazing experience, especially looking inward and also realizing how much people need these healing modalities because of the pandemic.
It humbles me to be able to offer these holistic healing modalities virtually so that everyone can access them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I originally went to school for esthetics, which is skin therapy, and Makeup Artistry. I wanted to help people with acne feel beautiful, and also be an LGBT advocate in the industry.
When covid hit, I could no longer practice. Ny shut down non essential business, and when it opened up, I still could not practice. My husband is immunocompromised; he is on monthly immunotherapy for multiple sclerosis. And I am high risk due to a heart condition.
I decided I wanted to become certified to practice Reiki; a healing modality I have always loved as a client. I found an online course and dug in. By the beginning of 2021, I was certified Reiki Master, and had a hunger for knowledge for other holistic practices. Which led me to take those certification courses.
I have slowly but surely started doing virtual sessions, mainly with reiki, and on family only I will do in person. I love to see the results of pain relief, tension eased and sleep restoration, to name a few. I have an Instagram, and Facebook page and group to learn more about reiki. It is becoming more and more commonplace, and less “woo woo” .
I eventually want to open a brick and mortar wellness center incorporating all the modalities I am certified in. That is my ultimate goal, to integrate physical and spiritual wellness.
Right now I have monthly membership for reiki and my other modalities on https://www.buymeacoffee.com/raysofreiki13.
I can always be reached at [email protected]
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would 1,000% choose this same profession again. I love what I do
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than always learning new things/continuing Ed, the most helpful is having an empathetic aura about you and always putting yourself in your client’s shoes.
People come to me with physical and emotional ailments that require sensitivity and compassion!
