We were lucky to catch up with Kristen Young recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I started modeling when I was in high school. I’ve always loved fashion and posing and taking pictures.
Kristen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began modeling when I was 16. I attended John Casablanca modeling school. I learned the “behind the scenes” of the business and fell in love. I’ve always been a little shy but when I’m modeling I feel that shyness melt away and I’m able to preform.
I’ve been modeling here in the St Louis area for about 7 years. It has been challenging working in this industry in a city I am not from. It has also been a rewarding experience as well. I have met some amazing models, designers and others that work in the modeling industry.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being in the modeling industry can be a lot mentally, if you are not ready for that world. A lesson I’ve learned has been to be confident and comfortable with who I am. That’s what sets me apart from everyone else. I do not have to look like everyone else, my weight may fluctuate up and down but keeping that inner confidence will take you a long way.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a model is inspiring others. I’ve had so many people, men, women and children, come up to me after a fashion show I’ve walked in expressing their interest in modeling. Another rewarding aspect is working with some of the designers I’ve worked with. Their garments are beautiful, great energy when meeting them and then being able to showcase their work is so amazing.
