We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristen Montoya. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristen below.
Kristen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I’d just had twins and my life looked like a giant handbag someone had turned upside down and spilled the contents all over the floor. A f***ing mess. Somehow, all of the pieces of my life that had always made orderly sense just didn’t anymore.
Hi, I’m Dr. Kristen Montoya and this is the wild story of how I became a chiropractor and now have the privilege of caring for my community through delivering NetworkSpinal care. I know you’re wondering- what the heck is that?! In short, it is a way to uplevel your nervous system and life that is absolutely magical and life changing. We’ll talk more about NetworkSpinal in a minute. Right now, hang with me-
I was 39 years old and had 3 year old twins at home. I had multiple successful careers- first as a fine art conservator, and then as a photography producer, and somehow with the twins, I could just feel it- My old life just didn’t fit who I was anymore. Something was awaiting me. Things felt uncomfortable. Whoever said waiting is supposed to be peaceful…let’s just say, that was not my experience! I was having trouble focusing after the twins, I felt worn out and like nothing in my life was working anymore. What could help?
Cue…NetworkSpinal.
I landed on the table of a chiropractor who practiced in a way that I had never experienced- was this even chiropractic?! Definitely not what I had ever thought chiropractic care could be like.
My mind was blown.
The lightest touches were made to my spine at my neck and tailbone, yet even with such a small touch, something amazing was happening in my body- and in my life- things were moving and grooving!
And in such a profound way- a leveling up of the human experience as I knew it.
It was astonishing. And I knew what I had to do next. I knew what was awaiting me. I needed to become a chiropractor so I could bring this healing to all the people who, like me, deserve MORE out of life, people who want to give more, and play a bigger game than they ever thought possible.

Kristen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My dream became reality.
Windhorse Chiropractic officially opened in the gorgeous historic Bishop Arts Building right here in Dallas, TX. The space is quiet, dreamy and sun drenched. It’s a little bit of a fun secret, you literally buzz your way in. Right in the middle of the raucous party that is our neighborhood! I know Bishop Arts gets bumping -gotcha covered- there’s a private parking lot for your use. It’s above the new sushi spot Otaru (Yes, its great- you should go!). And keep your eye out for Whisk Crepes, they are soon to open downstairs.
Thank you for all the enthusiasm from our community. I absolutely love serving our friends and neighbors right here in the neighborhood. Thank you Oak Cliff! And for those of you who have yet to visit, WELCOME!!
For those of us who are just getting acquainted, I am Dr. Kristen Montoya. I practice NetworkSpinal, a form of chiropractic which is incredibly effective and surprisingly light touch. Transformative. It captivated me enough that I simply had to become a practitioner. My colleagues here in Oak Cliff at Urban Hippie inspired me to fulfill that passion. What a gift they are and how awesome to all get to serve this neighborhood, each with our own unique gifts. We are one another’s biggest fans.
I have lived in our neighborhood for 20 years and have 8 year old twins at Rosemont Elementary. My husband is a commercial photographer by trade and passionate coffee roaster on the weekends.
We are wildly curious about what is possible. Hence, we have a house and appliances that all run on the sun and we plug our cars into that grid too. We tithe 10% to charity, so know that your investment in your own care goes further to help others than you may have previously imagined!
If I’ve given you the impression that we have it all together over here- our grass grows tall and our house is begging for a coat of paint. We live in the space of tinkering and of what’s possible for humanity, aiming to contribute as much as we can -and sometimes-the laundry gets neglected. It’s the most thrilling way I can dream up to spend our lives. You too?!
