We were lucky to catch up with Kristen Case recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kristen , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew that I wanted to pursue a creative/ artistic path professionally was that my mom put in acting class growing up and done a little bit of improv . She always says it helped my public speaking but I believe that while I made a decision to not pursue that professionally was the best decision . I was always curious about the process and there are ups and downs with this business. Every time I think about it I say this where my heart is . I would watch movies all the time with my dad and tv shows . We would go the video store on Fridays and watch on the weekends. Going into college in 2017 I knew that this was what I wanted to do and have no regrets. The main circumstances that shaped me was that everyone in my class always wanted to do certain kind of projects and I felt the insane pressure of fitting in and wanting to do that which it was essential and still working on this daily that the projects I want to make are going to be different because my experiences as neurodivergent and bisexual .Those are valued you have to value that even if others don’t . I don’t fall neatly into a category . My on-set experiences I have the pleasure to work with such talented people .

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in La Crescenta so for those who don’t know where that is in LA it is near Pasadena and you see mountains. Growing up there it was to me a good distance of feeling peaceful like you are away from the city and LA so I think that is why I enjoy when I go out to network with friends or out line dancing which if you have not line danced highly recommend. I I think what truly sets me apart is that I will always do my best to help sourcing crew or talent , logistics or being that ear to listen to . I am the most proud of is the people who brought me on to their projects . I am really proud to work on recently on a short film called Cruiser because we were a scrappy crew and being able to help and put on different hats to help the story . At times I don’t know if I am making progress but I realized that you make the best progress is when you step out of your comfort zone.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The way to support artists and create a thriving ecosystem to the best is to help share resources .I will share whether it’s a fellowship , job op or networking event . It can be on my instagram or messaging to let someone know . I thinking a thriving ecosystem is that throughout your creative journey there will be times where things will look different and giving yourself the grace when there are the moments of maybe feeling stuck or stagnant . If you have friends that are fundraising for the project I have followed the project or share helps a lot . You keep on expanding your network .

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is that no one day looks the same . have the fortunate opportunity to work with people who are better than me and that’s a blessing .I would like to give a shoutout to Melissa Del Gratta and Tom Dowler at Longhaul Films for always giving me the opportunity to learn something new each time I work with them. The people I have met . Even just by watching people you are gaining knowledge whether it’s good or bad.
