Alright, Kristell thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers

Imagine being a fugitive on the run for a crime you were not even in the state to commit. Your family is unsure of your innocence so all doors of refuge are closed. You have no valid Identification and only enough money in your pocket to cover expenses for the week because you have just “redup”, paid your lawyer retainer payment and had no idea that your spirit was tired of living in the shadows and tired of perpetuating generational curses. With one foot still dragging on the dark side and your heart digging deep to find hope. What would you do? Would you continue down the road of what’s familiar, would you go down the rabbit hole of “I have nothing to lose?” Or would you have the courage to use what might be your last chance to fight for redemption?
This is how my business came to life, not the expected circumstances to say the least. So what was the crossroad? Well after having a candid conversation with a truth seeking attorney a seed was planted in me that grew to be what is now known as Kgoody Kollection. I realized then that I had to take a chance at My second chance and in the end my redemption.
This year for my 40 birthday the judge finalized my walk with a scarlet wanted stamp that had followed me for 10 years and all charges were dropped and dismissed finally my innocence was proven. I am not ashamed of my past because it was the road that brought me to my peace. I share my testimony boldly because unfortunately someone somewhere is feeling like there is no hope and maybe hearing my story will inspire them to change.
I recognize my past life as a Street Pharmacist was an unorthodox business course that helped me navigate entrepreneurship with knowledge of how to bootstrap a business solely from its profits, and how to ensure my ROI was at least 300% retail to offer room to provide wholesale price at a 200% return. It taught me the value of word of mouth marketing and how to incorporate affiliate distribution and subscription models in my business framework. But most importantly it saved my life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

The birth of Kgoody “The Natural Hair Guru” was just the launchpad for me. The success I found in hair care allowed me to showcase all of my creativity, gifts and talents. In fact, Kgoody Kollection products can be celebrated as the first Handmade Black owned brand to be featured on Walmart.com. The products are also sold on store’s shelves internationally and most recently was welcomed in Amazon’s Handmade Brands Category. Doors have opened in many arena’s, as of now I am a three time published Author and I can proudly say my books and self help curriculum has helped groom thousands of success stories.
Annually I have the honor of partnering with NONPROFITs and Colleges to offer community outreach events and been invited to share my testimony all over the United States. And just to see how God brings things full circle, my journal entries have been translated into Empowerment Music and are now being streamed on major platforms and also used on social media platforms to create content. I also have a few other projects in the works I am just grateful for everything God places on my table even the things I do not mention.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

As one can imagine the traditional support system was not available for me so it was many nights and days were slotted to learn. Books have been my companion on many occasions and some I read daily just to keep my iron sharp. As an entrepreneur and a person who believes strongly in the laws of attraction I suggest every business owner read The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy.
Before true success is found you must first believe you deserve it and this book will help shift your thinking to one that welcomes abundance.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

As we all can see, the Consumer Climate is changing rapidly. With new health scares on the rise and the economy slumped it is important to have opportunities to pivot your sales channels. When COVID19 locked us down is when I realized that direct to consumer sales may not always be my best introduction to my target customer. So in spite of being told Esty was the only place my products would be welcomed I deemed it my mission to prove it to myself that my products can compete with bigger brands and started pitching my brand to every marketplace available. To date Kgoody Kollection can be purchased on over 50 different online marketplaces outside of my website and social media. I still have yet to use any paid marketing campaign to generate business. I believe that this plays a large role in what helped my business sustain the Pandemic.
