We recently connected with Krista Foertsch and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Krista thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Roots Wellness was founded on the belief that true well-being starts with self-empowerment. In a world saturated with both information and misinformation about health, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or misled by societal definitions of wellness, many of which are unrealistic, culturally skewed, or unsustainable. At Roots Wellness, I do things differently. I’m here to help individuals reclaim their health by offering a grounded, holistic approach tailored to their unique experiences, physiology, nutritional needs, traumas, and goals. I understand that no two wellness journeys are alike, and I meet each client where they are; honoring their individuality and co-creating realistic, meaningful goals and actionable steps that align with their personal vision of health.
At Roots Wellness, I take a comprehensive approach to health by addressing all dimensions of well-being: physical, intellectual, emotional, social and relational, spiritual, environmental, occupational and financial, and recreational. Through a combination of health and wellness coaching, nutrition counseling, functional movement and strength training, mental and emotional health support, and sleep and stress management strategies, I guide clients in making meaningful, lasting lifestyle changes. This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about helping you build a strong, sustainable foundation for lifelong well-being, on your terms, at your pace.
I opened Roots Wellness with one core intention: to create a safe, inclusive space where every individual feels seen, heard, understood, and valued. My journey with the conventional medical model has been deeply personal. Like so many others, I’ve experienced being dismissed, overlooked, or pushed a prescription without real guidance or support. Too often, people are told what to do for their health, but not how to get there, or why it matters to their unique lives. At Roots Wellness, I use a lifestyle medicine approach, focusing on behavioral and lifestyle interventions to prevent, treat, manage, or even reverse chronic illness and disease. But more than that, I address the whole person, not just the symptoms. Together, we explore all aspects of well-being. Yes, it can feel overwhelming, but lasting change doesn’t have to come all at once. With the right tools, support, and guidance, anyone can make meaningful progress. It starts with the basics: moving your body regularly, eating whole and nourishing foods, spending time in nature and receiving sunlight, getting quality sleep, managing stress, and cultivating healthy relationships, with yourself, others, and your work.
At Roots Wellness, I believe in the power of small, consistent steps. Because those steps, grounded in real life, lead to lasting results and a healthier, more fulfilling life.
While I offer a variety of services at Roots Wellness, each one is deeply interconnected. True wellness doesn’t exist in silos, every area of health influences the others. For example, if I’m working with a client on nutrition, we don’t just talk about what to eat. We also explore their relationship with food, how stress may influence their eating habits, and how inadequate sleep can lead to poor food choices. Nutrient-poor diets, in turn, can affect mental and emotional health and further disrupt sleep patterns. It’s a web of connections, and together we untangle it, starting with one focus area that feels manageable for the client and building from there. The same integrative approach applies to movement and exercise. Each person has unique biomechanics, postural habits, and life experiences, such as trauma, surgeries, injuries, or daily ergonomics, that affect their movement patterns. These factors can lead to compensations, mobility limitations, and instability. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all fitness plan, I design personalized movement programs that honor where each client is today, while guiding them toward where they want to be. This not only supports the physical body but also positively influences sleep, nutrition, emotional resilience, and overall vitality. When we make a shift in one area of life, the ripple effects are powerful. That’s the essence of holistic care, creating balance and restoration across the full spectrum of well-being.
I work with clients using evidence-based frameworks that meet them where they are and guide them toward where they want to be. It all begins with a comprehensive intake process that looks deeply into their health history, lifestyle, behavior patterns, and goals. We explore what has and hasn’t worked in the past, current stressors, barriers to success, and strategies for staying on track during life’s inevitable challenges. Together, we co-create clear, achievable goals using SMART principles: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been immersed in the health and wellness industry for over 18 years, but my journey began long before that. Athletics have been a core part of my life since the age of three. From an early age, I was fascinated by the human body, its resilience, complexity, and capacity for change. That curiosity evolved into a lifelong passion for human movement, nutrition, mental and emotional health, and holistic well-being.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, with minors in Strength & Conditioning and Nutrition Sciences. Early in my career, I quickly realized that no aspect of health exists in isolation. Physical health, mental resilience, emotional well-being, lifestyle behaviors, and environmental influences are deeply intertwined and addressing one requires understanding the others. This insight has shaped my approach ever since.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
At the heart of my practice is a deep commitment to genuine connection. I make an intentional effort to truly get to know each of my clients, not just their goals, but their stories, challenges, values, and aspirations.
I believe in holding space, creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel seen, heard, and understood throughout their wellness journey. I practice active listening, empathy, motivational interviewing, and life mapping along with other coaching tools while simultaneously striving to be fully present in every interaction. This presence builds trust, which is the foundation for meaningful, sustainable change.
By investing in the individual, I help clients reconnect with their own sense of agency and self-worth. When people feel supported and valued, they become empowered to take the steps necessary to move forward, on their terms, in alignment with their goals.
Wellness is not a one-way street. It’s a collaborative relationship, and I am here to walk alongside my clients every step of the way.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I believe that the most powerful form of marketing is word of mouth, because people naturally speak about the experiences that leave a lasting impact. That’s why I prioritize providing the highest quality care and ensuring that every client feels supported, heard, and valued throughout our work together. My goal is that each person walks away feeling they’ve had a positive, empowering experience one worth sharing with others.
Relationship-building is at the heart of my business. It’s not only the foundation of trust with my clients, but also the key to a broader support network that strengthens the care they receive.
Over the years, I’ve worked diligently to cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with a network of trusted health and wellness professionals from physical therapists and mental health counselors to naturopaths, dietitians, and bodywork specialists. When appropriate, I can refer clients to these experts, ensuring they receive care that is both comprehensive and specialized. This collaborative model promotes continuity and alignment across all areas of health, helping individuals move forward with clarity, confidence, and greater support.
